Five Ways to Be an Angel for Animals This Holiday Season

In addition to the flurry of catalogs stuffing my mailbox these days, I’ve also gotten a slew of donation requests from various animal organizations. I’d love to help all of them, but, just like everybody else, money’s tight lately. However, I decided I still could help. Maybe not everyone else is aware of the various places needing help or of the different donation programs offered. Maybe by creating a list of them I’d still be helping in a way. So that’s what I did. Maybe one of the following will appeal to your donation style. PETA’s “Angels for Animals” doghouse … Continue reading

The Ugly Kitty

A crafty friend of mine asked if I’d heard of The Ugly Kitty. I hadn’t, but with a name like that I had to track this shop down. Quasi (aka UglyKitty) is the star of the show. Due to a cleft pallet, she has a … Continue reading

New Year, New Resolutions

Photo by Bill Kolios 2006 was a decent year for me. The highlight was getting hired on by Families.com as one of their Pets Bloggers. But already in that short time I’ve learned so much from reading the other blogs as well as through my own research. And now it’s that time of year: Time to bid fond farewell to the past year, while anticipating the arrival of the new one. I like making resolutions. It keeps me honest and gives me something to … Continue reading

I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas

Have you ever heard the song “I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas” sung by Gayla Peevey? If not (or if you’d just like to hear it again), click here. John Rox wrote the song in 1950. It became a hit in 1953 when some savvy PR people had ten-year-old Gayla sing it as part of a money-raising campaign to get a hippo for the Oklahoma City Zoo. Kids were encouraged to send in their change and voila! Gayla got her hippo. (Matilda. Which of course Gayla immediately “donated” to the zoo.) Well, if you’ve ever wanted a hippopotamus of your … Continue reading
