To Try

What was it that Yoda said? Oh yes. Do or do not. There is no try. Well, I disagree. My apologies to Yoda. He may have more wisdom of the ages than I do, but he didn’t watch today’s Paralympic sledge hockey game. We live in Vancouver, Canada, the host of the 2010 Winter Olympics. Way back in the fall, I’d purchased tickets to the gold medal round of sledge hockey, certain that Canada would be in it. Canada lost to Japan, and Japan ended up in the final with the United States. The Cutting Edge (1992)

I love figure skating, I love comedy, and I love romantic movies. This release starring Moira Kelly and D.B. Sweeney had all of this for me. Doug (Sweeney) is an Olympic hockey player. This section is located in the corner of the arena, in the upper level. Upon mentioning our plans to my brother, he produced four lower level seats 25 rows up … Continue reading

Free Hockey Tickets (AHL)

I used to have a friend who told me he played hockey for Harvard and was in the hockey scenes from Love Story (for those of you under 40, that’s a movie). I thought he was pulling my leg and told him so. He asked me why I thought it wasn’t true. “Because you have all of your teeth!” He laughed and pulled out a partial plate, then regaled me with hockey tales the rest of the evening. Hockey can be a violent sport. But so can football, soccer, and even badminton. There’s a lot more to it than checks … Continue reading
