What Is A Retrosexual?

Okay, by now I am sure you are familiar with the term “metrosexual.” The word is used to describe a guy who dresses better than some female models, waxes all unnecessary body hair, spends more in time in the spa than in the gym, and knows the difference between a manicure and a pedicure because he has experienced both. So, what is a “retrosexual?” According to fashion experts he is a bit hairy and shows a little paunch. Well, perhaps that is an understatement. Editors at Details magazine define a “retrosexual” as a “manly man, an alpha male who may … Continue reading

Celebrities and Plastic Surgery

I was watching something the other night on television and Priscilla Presley came on screen. At least I think it was Priscilla Presley, it could have been the Joker from Batman. She was once a beautiful woman and even seemed to be aging gracefully but apparently, some butcher got a hold of her face and mutilated it. She was no longer even remotely attractive, but something odd looking. Not exactly Michael Jackson odd looking, but still, it was not good. I started wondering why some celebrities end up with good plastic surgery results and some seem to get horrible results. … Continue reading

The Christian Marriage

Over the next few weeks I want to focus some blog articles on marriage, and more specifically the Christian marriage, which should be centered on God. The topic of marriage has been on my mind a lot lately. There have been some really good discussions in the Christian Families Forum specifically about Christianity and marriage. My husband and I have some good friends who are getting married this weekend. I also came across the following quote by Rita Rudner, a comedienne: “In Hollywood a marriage is a success if it outlasts milk.” The quote by Ms. Rudner really caught my … Continue reading

Jason McElwain Hits the Big Time… the REALLY Big Time

Most of you remember, MUST remember, the story of Jason McElwain, an autistic high schooler who became a national sensation when he scored six astonishing three point shots in the final minutes of his team’s last game of the season. It had been the first time he was even allowed to suit up and play, due to his size and his disability. But Jason surprised everyone when he performed like a pro. Maybe better than a pro. Basketball legend Earvin “Magic” Johnson, who watched Jason’s amazing basketball debut, later commented that it was a feat “nearly impossible” for even a … Continue reading

Oscar Loves Disabilities

For those of you who are faced with mental challenges, developmental delays, disorders, or physical limitations, either because you parent a special child or face your own life struggles, Hollywood pays tribute to you. Regularly. In fact, it is interesting to note that if you look closely at Oscar-winning movies over nearly the past two decades, a great majority of “Best Picture” winners or nominees contain a theme or character with some kind of disability. 1988 : Rain Man – The Story of an Autistic Savant and his brother, who must learn to co-exist. 1989: My Left Foot was the … Continue reading

Joaquin Phoenix – Coming Into His Own

Joaquin Phoenix was hand picked by Johnny Cash to portray him in Walk the Line. Like Johnny, Joaquin had plenty of personal tragedies and internal demons to deal with and quite possibly drew upon them to help his art, just as Johnny did. Joaquin Phoenix was born in Puerto Rico to John and Heart, missionaries of the controversial Children of God sect. He was one of five, all of which would eventually have careers in acting. With siblings named River, Rain, Liberty, and Summer, Joaquin felt his name was slightly out of place and briefly went by the name of … Continue reading

Lou Tellegen – A Hollywood Tragedy

Hollywood is filled with stories of fame and fortune. But it also has its share of scandals and sadness. When walking the streets of Hollywood, it is as if you can see the ghosts of the past – those who achieved fame then fell from grace or those that never were lucky enough to have ever achieved it at all. Most of you about the tragic deaths of Sharon Tate, killed at the hands of a hippie cult or Sal Mineo, brutally attacked and stabbed to death by a stranger in the night. But many people may not have heard … Continue reading
