Some Thoughts on Strollers and Baby Carriers

Over the weekend, we had some very nice weather. Even though the dirt road that we live on is muddy and full of deep ruts, I really wanted to take the boys out for a walk. Dylan really wanted me to take the double stroller out so that he could ride with his baby brother for part of our walk. I thought that it might be fun to see whether our beat up double jogging stroller (which we got from the thrift store last year) was up to the challenge. We enjoyed a wonderful walk, and since the stroller is … Continue reading

Is Your Home Based Business Ready To Weather The Storm?

As Hurricane Sandy makes its way up the East Coast, many home – based professionals are likely to be thinking about what they need to do in order to get ready for the storm. Of course, what each home – based professional has to do to prepare will depend upon where he or she is located. On the more severe end of things, people who have to evacuate their homes must decide if their work is something that they can take on the road with them, or if they must do their best to get everything stored safely away before … Continue reading

Taking Advantage of a Springlike Day

It has been unseasonably warm here lately. Today I think the high was 56, it’s February in Utah but please don’t tell old man winter, I’m ok with him skipping us this year. It was so warm today that I got a bit of a spring cleaning bug. Now I know this won’t last but I do want to enjoy it while I can. There are several things that I can do when the weather is nice that just makes my home seem that much cleaner. It is nice to have these little things done when it gets cold again, … Continue reading

Tagging Our Christmas Tree

Last week I spent a good bit of time researching Christmas trees. I discovered that there are lots of different varieties some of which are not available in our region of the country. I found a website the outlined the different types of trees and where they grew and then looked them up to see which kind would work best for us. I narrowed it down to three varieties: Fraser Fir, Balsam Fir, and Blue Spruce. I then contacted several local tree farms to see what varieties of Christmas trees they carried. As it turns out there are two farms … Continue reading

What Do Home Based Professionals Do During a Power Outage?

For the past two days, I have been in New Hampshire. An early snow storm a few days ago knocked out power in many parts of the state, including the town where we were staying. Ironically, the places that were hardest hit by the wintry weather were the places that were the furthest south. The reason for that is that not only did not much snow make it all the way north – I drove home to Vermont today and arrived to find almost no snow in our yard – the snow that did fall was heavy and wet. That … Continue reading

It Is Great To Work From Home In The Winter!

With winter on its way, I am once again very thankful to be a home-based professional. As much as I have been careful to avoid the subject of winter because I did not want to acknowledge that it was in fact on the way, I can no longer do so. A few inches of wet, heavy snow has already fallen here in New Hampshire, where I have been for the past few days. That wet, heavy snow (or a car accident related thereto) has caused a power outage at the hotel where we are staying – and a whole lot … Continue reading

Parents Brace for Pumpkin Shortage

Moms and dads with their own versions of Linus van Pelt at home may be bracing for a scarier Halloween than ever before, thanks to a girl named Irene. Make that Hurricane/Tropical Storm Irene. The ferocious weather pattern that ravaged the Northeast late last month could make picking the perfect pumpkin nearly impossible for hundreds of thousands of families living along the East Coast. A large number of farmers in New York and Massachusetts reported total losses of their crops, including a few growers, who told ABC News that roughly 15,000 to 20,000 pumpkins, washed away during Irene. According to … Continue reading

Pros and Cons to Elliptical Machines

I am a pretty big of my elliptical machine. I have a NordicTrack, found at most exercise stores and department stores that carry exercise equipment (such as Sears). Although the elliptical machines are one of my favorite workout machines, like with any machine, there are pros and cons. Pros One pro to an elliptical, whether at the gym or at your home, is that it is an indoor workout. Indoor workouts are convenient when the weather outside is less than desirable. Indoor workouts can also be safer. Instead of running outside where you have to deal with terrain, the elliptical … Continue reading

Let’s Party – The Pros And Cons Of Home Party Sales

For some reason, it seems like every time I turn around, I am being invited to attend a party. Now before you think that I am going to begin complaining about the pitfalls of being popular, let me reassure you that this is not the case. While I do have quite a few friends and many acquaintances, not all of these invitations are for birthdays or dinner parties. In fact, most of them are not. Most of them are for home party sale parties. Let me further expand on this by saying that if home party sales are hot here … Continue reading
