Free Kids Activities at Lowes

A while ago I brought you information about kids workshops at the Home Depot. These workshops are free for kids, and are generally held on one or more Saturdays in the month. Well, now I want to talk about the free kids activities at the Lowe’s home improvement store. The projects offered by Lowe’s for their Build and Grow Clinics are quite impressive. You won’t find any plain wooden boxes here. There are two upcoming workshops this month that look interesting. (Lowe’s offers the activities every two weeks.) The first is an art house! I’m not sure if the ants … Continue reading

More Tips for Updating a Garage

Spring cleaning can also mean spring cleaning out. And there is probably no better space in most people’s homes than the garage for an overhaul. I already shared some ideas for simple updates to the garage space that will make a big impact. Now, I have some more tips for you. If you have an outside door leading in to your garage, consider replacing it with a 15-pane door. The panes of glass will let in a lot of light to the space. If you are worried about privacy, you can hand a curtain or blind as needed. For a … Continue reading

Adventures in Carpeting

Last week, we decided to head over to a local flooring store to take a look at our options for kitchen flooring. Here is what happened. Remember now that we were looking around at ideas, availability and pricing to help us make some decisions for a kitchen redo. We wanted to see what types of flooring might look nice, hold up in the kitchen and be affordable. At the flooring store, we met a great salesman who was also a closet designer. I mean that he designs rooms as a side business, not that he designs closets. I’ll call him … Continue reading

Making Peace with Our Homes

Can you look past the trees for the forest? So much of what we read or view about our homes is all about improvement. From organizing, to decorating to adding on, moving up and filling it with the latest things, such as granite countertops and high definition televisions. All of that advice is great and interesting, of course. I am a huge fan of home improvement shows, house flipping shows, design shows, etc. I blog about decorating, design and home improvement here in the Home Blog, and I read as much as I can about these subjects. But once in … Continue reading

Making Decisions on Renovations

Sometimes, we have to ask, Renovation: Is it Worth it? The answer will vary, depending on many different considerations including the other questions you ask. For example, in a small home with a large family, you may wish to increase your storage. Wall to wall, floor to ceiling shelves sound pretty darned good… built-ins (or built in styles) are great. They don’t look so much like an afterthought, or just another area stuffed with stuff. They look like they have always been part of the place. So, should you do shelving? You may wonder if you are giving up too … Continue reading

The first thing you should determine when you are choosing a garage door is to select the material for the door. You can choose between wood or steel. Steel doors don’t require much maintenance, but you also can’t easily change the color. And your options in design can be more limited than in wood. If you want a carriage style door, you might … Continue reading

New paint is the perfect backdrop for all of our holiday decorating. Here at Romansville, I have been trying to get my daughter’s room painted.
