iPhone: The 12th Icon

Have you seen the iPhone mock up on Apple’s website? It features some pretty colorful icons that promise that the iPhone will do all sorts of great features. There are four icons at the bottom: Phone, Mail, Web and iPod, that show off the standard functionality of the iPhone. But on the rest of the screen, there are other icons, eleven to be exact, lined up along the screen like little soldiers. Well, lined up like little soldiers who are waiting for their last comrade to arrive. There appears to be one icon that is missing. Maybe I am the … Continue reading

Is DRM-Free Music A Privacy Threat?

Recently I told you about the new iTunes Plus service that allows users to download protection-free (DRM-free) music selections from the iTunes store for a slightly higher price than standard music downloads. With DRM-free music downloads, sound is said to be of higher quality with less interference noise. DRM-free music can also be loaded onto other devices to play the the tracks, and the music can also be illegally shared over peer to peer networks. It was recently discovered, however, that these DRM-free tracks contain unencrypted details of the person originally purchasing the download, namely their name and e-mail address. … Continue reading

Lost Five Times Over

I am probably the only person in America who has yet to see the television show, Lost. I feel like I should either join a support group and start therapy immediately, or go crawl back under my rock. The only excuse I have is that I have three small children at home and that by the time they have everything they need and are tucked in bed, by the time the house is reset back to the way it was, why I am just ready to pop myself in bed and read a good book for a few minutes before … Continue reading

Unhealthy Obsessions: Me and My Computer

I have come to the conclusion that I am really obsessed with my computer, and the Internet. As I already covered earlier, I have found that I always seem to have multiple programs going at the same time: iTunes, Bloglines, Gmail, and lots of documents everywhere–finished blogs I need to post, halfway finished ones I need to polish, and then ones that only have the idea typed across the top (“Need to talk about how to deal with an insane boss”–something I’ve had to deal with way too often lately.) On a particularly crazy day, I had twelve documents open … Continue reading

Dr. Seuss Birthday Party

March 2nd happens to be the birthday of one of the most famous children’s book authors of all time – Dr. Seuss. While the schools may not be closed, this is as much a day to be celebrated as any other, so why not throw a Dr. Seuss Birthday Party for your family and friends? There are many ways to celebrate Dr. Seuss-style and live it up on 3/2. For starters, you can hurry over to Amazon.com and purchase some of Dr. Seuss’ books that you may not own yet – titles such as Horton Hears A Who and The … Continue reading

The Beatles Are Coming! The Beatles Are Coming!

Although I am too young to have enjoyed the American invasion of the mop tops, I may be able to relive a small part of it today, Valentine’s Day. Apple Inc. (the Mac company) has acquired the first direct download rights to the entire catalogue of the Beatles music. Rumor has it that these songs will be made available today, February 14th, in the iTunes music store. The digital versions of the Beatles songs will be available in iTunes exclusively for the first three months. I can’t yet confirm this as fact. One of the things that Apple is pretty … Continue reading

How Do You Podcast?

This morning during some random web surfing I came across an “official podcasting kit” for sale on the Internet for around $300. The kit included some decent podcasting software and a studio quality USB microphone. I was first appalled at the price of the kit, considering I think I can create pretty decent podcasts using the included software on my computer and my $15 microphone from Target. The more I think about it, the more sense it made. Podcasts have become more and more popular in recent years; to a point that I think they could legitimately be a “job” … Continue reading

Dr. Seuss Books on iTunes

Here is a post that shows how much time my family spends on the road! We drive around a lot, be it on vacations to Maine or New York or when we make our bi-weekly trips to my parents’ house. My mom watches our daughter every other Friday, which has my trio making the 1 hr journey east on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, usually in rush hour traffic. To pass the time in a peaceful manner, we now have the ability to slip in a CD mix featuring some of our daughter’s all time favorite stories. This will often make her … Continue reading
