Phylicia Rashad Gets a New Job and Ivana Trump Gets a New Man

Move over Valerie Bertinelli there’s a new celebrity who wants to lose weight with Jenny Craig. According to reports, Phylicia Rashad is the latest actress to be plucked out of calorie-conscious Hollywood and named spokeswoman for Jenny Craig. Rashad, who is best know for her role as Bill Cosby’s on-screen wife, Clair on “The Cosby Show,” joins the Jenny Craig all-star sorority, which already includes stars such as Queen Latifah, Kirstie Alley and Bertinelli. The 60-year-old, who in my opinion looks great just the way she is, won’t officially become the new bod of Jenny Craig until next month. January … Continue reading

Pro Basketball Player Speaks Out About His Fitness Challenges

When you are 6’3” and play for the L.A. Clippers most people assume you are in tip-top physical condition. Apparently, that’s not the case if you are Baron Davis. The NBA player is coming clean, telling the world about his struggles to maintain his weight and physicality. The 29-year-old basketball star admits that during the NBA off-season he has a tendency to let his fitness regime slide. Davis says once the season ends so does his daily workouts. In a candid conversation with news reporters the pro athlete admitted that he rarely cooks during the off-season and ends up “pigging … Continue reading

Jenny Craig Changing Directions in 2008

By now you’ve probably seen the new Jenny Craig ad campaign starring Queen Latifah. In fact, you may have even seen one of those commercials back to back with a Pizza Hut commercial featuring her voice. Scary, huh? Which voice do you listen to? But I digress. Jenny Craig offered Kirstie a contract for 2008 but she declined. The word is that although Kirstie considers Jenny Craig the best weight loss program there is, she doesn’t see herself as a part of the new direction that the company is directing its ads. The new approach is less about dropping the … Continue reading

Valerie Bertinelli Dishes the Dirt

She was the epitome of the sweet All American girl next door when she starred on “One Day at a Time,” but even though she was married to her rock star husband for 24 years – a monstrous amount of time by Hollywood standards – Valerie Bertinelli didn’t always play the good girl in real life. In a revealing interview with Oprah Winfrey, Valerie had admitted to cheating on ex-hubby Eddie Van Halen. You can watch the entire interview on Oprah’s show Monday, but to tide you over until then, here are some of the juicy parts. Valerie says that … Continue reading

Queen Latifah to Join Jenny Craig

I love Queen Latifah. She’s a bold, proud, strong woman who makes no excuses for her plus sized body and has always been secure in her voluptuousness. Regardless of her size, you could always count on seeing this diva in drop dead gorgeous dresses that fit perfectly when she strolled down a red carpet. There were never any mu-mus for this lady. She’s got curves and she’s not afraid to show them off. Personally, I can’t think of a better role model for young girls today, regardless of their color or lack thereof. Latifah’s mama taught her what we should … Continue reading

Celebrities Branching Out

There is something about Valerie Bertinelli that I find very appealing. As a kid I watched her on “One Day at a Time” and later happily read about her wedding to rock legend Eddie Van Halen. During her time in Hollywood Bertinelli has put together quite a resume: actress, rock-star wife, mother – and most recently, author. The 47-year-old is following in the footsteps of fellow actress Kirstie Alley by joining Jenny Craig and writing about her battle with weight. Bertinelli’s memoir is called “Losing It: And Gaining My Life Back One Pound at a Time.” The book will be … Continue reading

Giving Some Weight to How We Think About Weight Loss

I talked about apathy the other day and I got a great response from Fit4Life on the subject of why it’s hard to write about weight loss motivators. Hats off to you for providing such great insight to the topic. A lot of us don’t necessarily know what is motivating our weight loss. It may be that we’ve experienced a health issue or bad diagnosis. Maybe we tried on those jeans we used to be able to wear and we can’t snap the button anymore. It could be we just don’t like what we see in the mirror or we’re … Continue reading
