The saying goes that a picture is worth a thousand words, but I believe that having meaningful words can only enhance the photos on your layout. I would like to share some of my favorite places to look online to find meaningful quotes to use include on my layouts. Quotes are also a perfect addition to any card that you make. … Continue reading

A Scrapbook Journal Making Party – a Personal Experience

Over the weekend, our entire family, that’s seven of us, sat down for a journal making session. Our four girls are extremely creative, as is our boy and mom and dad too. After I made my previous journals, and wrote three articles titled: Designing a Journal (1) , Designing a Journal (2) and Designing a Journal (3), everyone in our family got excited and wanted to make them too. I purchased tons of composition books, I think our count was at twenty last time I checked, but at our journal making session we made six. There are sales everywhere on … Continue reading

Biggest Scrapbooking Mistakes – Journaling That Goes Nowhere

Journaling that goes nowhere is simply that. It is journaling that gives no information, doesn’t explain anything, or tell what is really happening in the photos. First of all, there is nothing wrong with journaling that doesn’t give specific information. Sometimes we find favorite photos that we may just want to journal a letter or advice to a child or the person depicted in the photograph. That in itself can complete a layout. But what I am really talking about when I refer to journaling that goes nowhere, is the scrapbooker who just plain despises journaling. You know you’re out … Continue reading

Travel Album without Photos

On a recent trip to Chicago with my husband we had a wonderful time and took over 200 pictures. On the trip home our camera disappeared. Not only was I very sad about losing the camera, I was even more upset about losing all of the pictures. Since this happened, I have been thinking about ways I could document our trip without any of the fabulous pictures from our camera. I’d like to share a few of my ideas with you. Save memorabilia. Some of the items I would have normally thrown away where suddenly treasures once I no longer … Continue reading

Biggest Scrapbooking Mistakes – Horrible Handwriting

We all suffer from time to time from the “Horrible Handwriting Syndrome”. If you’re like me, you might go back and forth. I apparently have a love/hate relationship with my own personal handwriting. One day, I absolutely love it, and the next I hate it. When I look back at some of my layouts, I see that horrible handwriting, and it just totally takes away from the way I view the layout. Instead of seeing the beautiful photos and realizing what a great layout I did, I see that horrible handwriting and wish I could will it away. Of course, … Continue reading

Printing On Vellum

Scrapbooker’s love to use Vellum. It’s the perfect addition to nearly any layout. However, I hear many the frustrations when they print their journaling or a title out onto the Vellum and it does not work correctly, smearing across the paper. Vellum comes from many different companies and can be purchased at crafts stores or your local scrapbook store. Each company varies in the amount of ph/acidity levels. Avoid the thicker vellum when you are creating a layout. The thicker vellum is meant for cards or packaging of gifts. Vellum in not absorbent. This is where the problem begins when … Continue reading

Journaling: Using Quotes & Toppers

Being the journaling guru that I am, I find myself constantly craving words on my layouts. If it isn’t actual journaling, I also enjoy using quotes and page toppers to convey a message. Words tell a story, or give the reader a hint to what they are looking at. In the newspaper, pictures have captions. In magazines, pictures have captions. You can use quotes and page toppers to be your “captions” on your scrapbook page. You should be able to find page toppers and quotes on practically every subject you can imagine. Sometimes you might even be able to come … Continue reading

Preserving family stories should be a priority in your scrapbooking, but even when it is, finding time to record them will definitely require some effort. Often we are faced with very little large blocks of time to dedicate to this, so we have to find those little slices of time and work with those. Try a few of these slices of time below and come up with a few of your own to add to the list. Turn off the television, and get to work. Unplug the telephone or turn the ringer down, resist the urge to answer it. Say … Continue reading

Reality Scrapbooking

Reality is taking risks, having adventures and in short, stepping outside the box. Stepping outside the box in journaling means focusing on capturing every aspect of an event or time. The good, the bad, and the ugly. Reality TV shows have become so popular that on any given night you are sure to find at least one or two. They seem to have it all wrapped up in each show. The good, the bad and the ugly. I am really not sure why they have become so popular, but for me the interest lies in the fact that I can … Continue reading
