More Questions Concerning Supreme Court Ruling Against Using Race for Admission

In my previous articles, I have discussed the plans of two school districts in Kentucky to place students in schools by race, I have talked of the Supreme Court ruling that ruled against the schools, and I have addressed some questions concerning Thursday’s Supreme Court ruling against two Kentucky school districts. In this article I will address even more questions and concerns of the ruling. Does this Supreme Court ruling compare to previous rulings made by the Court? This was the first case to discuss diversity and education since 2003. The 2003 case involved college admissions. During that time Justice … Continue reading

Southern Travel Attractions

Growing up in Hawaii you don’t hear very many people say they are “headed south” for vacation. Now that I live in the northern portion of one of the nation’s most northern states—-Wisconsin–I consider a jaunt to Chicago a trip “down south.” If you are fortunate enough to live south of Illinois, or plan to spend part of your summer vacation touring the south, I have a couple of noteworthy new attractions you should consider checking out. This, of course, means we’ve been doing a ton of research about horses, which usually begets the question: “Mommy, when are we going to visit them?” I told my daughter I may not know exactly when we will be meeting our four-legged friends, but I do know where we will be going when the … Continue reading

Kentucky Horse Park–A Horse Lovers Dream Vacation

Even if you missed watching the Preakness Stakes horse race (of the famed Triple Crown), you likely know by now that just a few seconds out of the gate, odds-on favorite, Barbaro, shattered three bones in his right hind leg. The scene was heart breaking and the replays of the race even caught the attention of my toddler daughter, who wanted to know, “What wrong with horsey?” It prompted me to do some research on horses and their training regime. In doing so I stumbled upon what I would consider an ideal vacation spot for horse lovers. The Kentucky Horse … Continue reading
