O.J. Simpson’s in Hot Water Again

For some reason, O.J. Simpson seems to have a need to be in the spotlight, whether it be in a good way (with his football accomplishments and acting career) or in a bad way (the murder of former wife Nicole Simpson and friend Ron Goldman and the “fictitious” book). Once again, his name is in the headlines, but as you might guess, it is not in a good way. O.J. has been questioned by investigators of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department in regards to a break-in of a hotel room. Sgt. John Loretto confirmed that there is an allegation … Continue reading

Las Vegas For Kids

Typically, Las Vegas is known for being a playground for grown ups. But you may be surprised to learn how many kid-friendly attractions there are available for the pint-sized set. My best friend and her 7-year-old son just returned from a family reunion in Las Vegas where they found there’s more for kids to do in Sin City than just kill time in family-oriented casino arcades with roller coasters. The following are their top picks for family fun in Sin City: Lied Discovery Children’s Museum Located about 10 miles north of the Strip, the Lied Discovery Children’s Museum is a … Continue reading

Summer Travel: Touring Dungeons and Pyramids

It’s true; summer is flying by (the school supplies are already up at our local stores). However, in keeping with the spirit of “it ain’t over til it’s over” you still have time to book that last minute summer vacation. If you are looking to travel somewhere that’s sure to translate into a memorable essay on “What I Did On My Summer Vacation” consider the following: ROME There’s nothing quite like being able to brag about touring centuries old cellars that were used to lock up Rome’s most notorious criminals, right? Well, here’s your chance. The dungeon beneath Castel Sant’Angelo, … Continue reading

Marriage Laws – Nevada

Our series on marriage laws, angles northward to Nevada. The Silver State has been covered somewhat in the marriage blog as marriage laws were amended in Las Vegas (a favorite destination and impulse wedding location). So let’s take a look at Nevada marriage laws. Nevada Each county may have specific requirements, so you need to check with the county where you plan to apply for your marriage license. You don’t need to be a resident, but you do need to bring with you a valid for of identification as well as your social security number. (You don’t need the card … Continue reading

Lucky Travel Date: 7-7-07

What are your plans for 7-7-07? If you are planning to try your luck in Las Vegas on July 7, 2007 you won’t be alone. Sin City resorts and restaurants are bracing for what is expected to be one of the busiest weekends ever. According to the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce, Saturday July 7th is expected to be the busiest wedding day in 100 years. Makes sense; after all, 7/7/7 is considered a lucky date, and the combo comes up only once a century. And in the city where Lady Luck reigns supreme, resorts are anticipating a banner weekend. … Continue reading

Lazy In Las Vegas

I’m all for taking it easy on vacation. In fact, prior to having my daughter I spent many a vacation sprawled out on a lounge chair with a stack of magazines next to me soaking up the sun until it set. I would then retire to my room, order room service, and call it a night (an entire day in the sun can take a lot out of you…). But when I heard how some tourists in Las Vegas are choosing to spend their vacations I had to wince. My dad, who is a frequent visitor to Vegas, has a … Continue reading

Bette’s New Home

Celine Dion made headlines (and multiple appearances on Oprah) in 2003 when it was announced that she would be moving to Las Vegas to serve as the headliner at Caesars Palace. Now, the singer says she is ready to move on (some tabloids are reporting that Dion is trying to get pregnant again) and will be replaced by another famous female crooner—Bette Midler. Midler’s got some big shoes to fill (though, I think she will slide into them nicely). After all, Dion’s show at the hotel’s 4,100-seat Colosseum has been sold out for what will be a nearly five-year run … Continue reading

SPA-tastic News For Midwest Travelers

I’ve taken a hit for taking jabs at my new northern home here in Wisconsin (what can I say, I grew up in Hawaii). I’ve attempted to make amends by detailing the incredible attractions the state has to offer in many of my previous blogs and today I have yet another to add to the list. Get ready ladies… this one’s especially for you! Let’s face it; Wisconsin isn’t known around the world (or even the Midwest) for having world-class spas. After all, when someone talks about what made Milwaukee famous the answer is not hot springs and deep-tissue massages. … Continue reading

Las Vegas Rocks

No, no, this isn’t another blog about the zany, high wattage activities that await you along Las Vegas’ famed Strip. Rather, this blog is dedicated to you early-birds (not you high rolling night owls) who enjoy spending time outdoors rockin’ the day away—-far away from the casinos, buffets and hoopla that takes place in downtown Vegas. Just 15 miles from the Strip in southern Nevada is a rock climber’s paradise called Red Rock Canyon. It’s regarded as one of the top places to rock climb in the nation and caters to both beginners and experienced climbers. If you are taking … Continue reading

Luxury Travel Accommodations

My experience with luxury travel has been limited to the gifts (stays at five-star resorts, plane tickets, etc.) from generous family members, and the occasional “tag along” with friends who frequent spas and luxury hotels. If you are able to afford pricey accommodations on your own (I’m jealous) here are a few new additions in the world of luxury travel you may consider taking advantage of: The Keating The Keating is a luxury boutique hotel located in San Diego, California. It is currently offering guests use of luxury vehicles. The hotel made an agreement with Ferrari to offer packages that … Continue reading
