Saving Money on Dryer Sheets

If you like to use fabric softener dryer sheets then no doubt you know how expensive they are. And it doesn’t take very long for you to go through a box of them. I have a hard time justifying the expense of the dryer sheets, maybe because I grew up without them. But, there are ways to save quite a bit on dryer sheets while still getting the benefit of the softness and freshness. Read on to find out just how you can do this. One of the easiest ways to save on dryer sheets is to cut them up … Continue reading

Make Your Own Fabric Softener

A few years ago, I stopped using fabric softener all together. Not only was it an added expense, but I didn’t always like the way it made the clothing feel. I know, maybe I am out of the ordinary, but I like clothing as clean as possible, and the thought of adding another layer of stuff into the fabric of our laundry items just sort of turned me off. I don’t mind dryer sheets, though. But, again, that is another expense, not to mention another allergen for my family of kiddos with sensitive skin. Most of the time we try … Continue reading

Iron in Bulk to Save Money

Did you know that the way you iron can save you money? It is true. No, it won’t save you tons and tons, but one thing I learned from reading that old encyclopedia of frugal, The Tightwad Gazette, is that every little thing counts. Every little change you make that can help you save your pennies can contribute to your frugal lifestyle. And pennies get together and grow up to be dollars, someday. So here is just another area where you can keep more of your pennies for yourself instead of spending them. Have you heard of the organizational guru … Continue reading

The Frugal Washing Machine

The way you load and set your washer can save you at least 50 percent a load. I love writing about ways to save money on laundry, because it is just one of those expenses that can’t be avoided. I do know people who do everything they can to avoid doing laundry, from airing out their clothing instead of washing it between times it is worn (can be frugal) to purchasing more clothing (probably not frugal, although it can be). Although I can do without many things in an effort to be frugal, I just can’t skimp on having clean … Continue reading

Free Pure Essentials Samples

Many of us are trying to use more natural products in the home. We use vinegar for a lot of our cleaning needs, gentler soaps in our bathrooms, and natural air fresheners. Now Proctor & Gamble is bringing “natural” to the laundry room as well. Their new Tide product contains baking soda and citrus extracts. I’ve always found regular Tide to be a little harsh for my skin, so I’m looking forward to the kindler, gentler version. They’re revising Downy, too. It now comes with Aloe or Chamomile. It will be interesting to see how aloe can be incorporated into … Continue reading

Free Sample of Gain Fabric Softener

I love the feel of soft, warm, fresh out of the dryer towels against my face. When the weather is nice, I like to hang clothes outside and let the wind whip that freshness into them. But it’s not quite the same as snuggling into a load of towels when it’s cold outside. They’re even better when fabric softener has been used. Not the sheets. For me, they are too fragrant, overwhelming the senses. I prefer to use a quarter to half the recommended amount in the washer, letting a barely-there scent permeate them. Gain promises a gentle scent in … Continue reading

Save Money When You Iron

Does anyone out there love to iron? For me it is a mixed bag. When I take a look at the mountain of shirts, pants, dresses and more that need to be ironed, I get discouraged. But I enjoy ironing, too. Why do I like ironing? Well, there are a couple of reasons. First of all, it is very task oriented. By that I mean that there is a real sense of accomplishment when you see the pile disappear, replaced by nice-looking clothes hanging in the closet. You can say, “Wow, look at all that I got done.” Another reason … Continue reading

Hanging Clothes on Trees

What happens when you inherit a dryer from the 1930’s? Read on to find out how in one fell swoop I did my laundry and created some unique landscaping. Moving into our new home has been an adventure. From living without water for three days to finding enough dirt on the kitchen floor to fill the cat’s’ litter-box, we have been feeling somewhat like the cast of Lost if they had found themselves in a rural part of Pennsylvania. As soon as usable water was restored to the house, it was time to do laundry. The washer was a nice … Continue reading
