Spires of Stone – Annette Lyon

Releasing to stores within the week, LDS novelist Annette Lyon’s new book “Spires of Stone” is a story set against the backdrop of the building of the Salt Lake Temple in 1867. Phillip, Claude and Ben are brothers who have been serving a mission in New York. It’s time for them to return home, and each brings with him some additional baggage. Phillip carries photographic equipment—he plans to set up a photography studio when he gets home. Claude carries the burden of a young lady he should not have spent time with while in the mission field, and Ben is … Continue reading

Towards the Promised Land – H. B. Moore

Ever since conducting my interview with LDS author H. B. Moore, I’ve eagerly anticipated reading “Towards the Promised Land,” volume three of the “Out of Jerusalem” series. This book encompasses 1 Nephi 17:7 – 18:23. Such short verses to convey so much – and so many possibilities. Moore takes the question of “What if?” and applies it to these verses of scripture. Nephi and his family have been living in the land Bountiful for a while and some have built rudimentary homes for themselves. But even while enjoying the fruit, meat, and honey that pervade the area, Nephi feels unsettled. … Continue reading

I’m very pleased to bring you part two of our exclusive interview with LDS authors Nancy Anderson, Lael J. Littke and Carroll H. Morris. If you missed yesterday, click here to catch up. I haven’t yet had the privilege of reading your series, although it’s on my wish list. Can you tell me, and our readers, about it? Lael: “Almost Sisters” is the first book of the series. In it, three very different women — Juneau from Pasadena, CA, Willadene from Wellsville, UT, and Erin from Minneapolis, MN — meet at BYU Education Week in 1980— Nancy: That might sound … Continue reading

Author Interview — Anderson, Littke, and Morris

We have a special treat today on Families.com – three LDS authors who have written a wonderful series together. Nancy Anderson, Lael J. Littke, and Carroll H. Morris graciously consented to this exclusive interview and I thank them for their time. Ladies, how did the three of you meet? Lael: Carroll and Nancy are sisters. I first became aware of Carroll when my editor at Deseret, Eleanor Knowles, told me she’d just put out a really fine book by her, titled “The Broken Covenant.” She gave me a copy. I read it and was really impressed. A year or so … Continue reading

Author Update: Josi Kilpack Announces New Book

LDS author Josi Kilpack is releasing a new book this week and granted this exclusive author update to Families.com to tell us more about it. Josi, with the release of this newest book, you’ll have seven books on the shelf. How does that feel? It’s amazing, one of those pinch-yourself moments. Ten years ago I’d written nothing, and had considered writing a novel about as often as I considered becoming an Electrical Engineer. To look back on that now is to be in awe of the path my life has taken and the gifts God gave me that I didn’t … Continue reading

Author Interview — Elodia Strain (part one) Ideas and Recommendations

Joining us for an exclusive interview with Families.com is Elodia Strain, a new author on the LDS market. Elodia, I had a great time reviewing your book “The Icing on the Cake.” How did you come up with the idea for the story? The basic idea came while I was stopped at a stoplight on University Avenue when I was living in Provo, Utah. I looked to my right and saw the Deseret Morning News building and thought, “Wouldn’t it be cool if I could write a column called something like, ‘Everyday Heroes,’ a column about the good, kind, inspiring … Continue reading

But when her ex-boyfriend shows up in her life again, she wonders if she made the right decision. Crystal says that the story was inspired by her own experiences. To continue our look into what authors like to read, I asked Crystal for a list, and here … Continue reading

Ephraim’s Seed – Pam Blackwell

I’ve commented before that LDS speculative fiction is very popular just now. We are seeing more “End Times” or “Latter Days” stories published than ever before. “Ephraim’s Seed” by Pam Blackwell is book one of “The Millennial Series,” another in this somewhat new but very well-received genre. We start the story with a brief introduction to the status of the world: The LDS church has been declared illegal by the government, and all Mormons are having to practice in secret. The United World Economic Network (UWEN) has taken control of all buying and spending, making it difficult for the Mormons … Continue reading

Author Interview — Carole Thayne: On Getting Ideas

When we left off yesterday, we were talking with LDS author Carole Thayne about her novels and the time she spent living in Grouse Creek. If you missed that article, click here. Carole, how did you get the ideas for your books? While we lived in Grouse Creek I often thought about the area where we lived, how rich with history it was, and how unique of a place, but it wasn’t until after we moved and I became more serious about writing that I went back a decade to pull out memories. While we lived there one of my … Continue reading

Carol Thayne is a popular LDS suspense author with two published novels. She has agreed to grant us an exclusive interview today.
