Do You Lie to Your Kids?

For some moms and dads the question isn’t do you lie to your kids, but how often do you stretch the truth, and how low do you go when you decide to fib? Well, you can’t stoop much lower than the following dad, who gives the term “bad parenting” new meaning: Have you heard the one about the guy who used Craigslist to advertise for an actor to take the family dog for a walk, then come back and tell his kids the dog bolted? It’s no joke. A single dad trying to not look like a villain in the … Continue reading

Do You Want to Know What God Hates?

Do you want to know what God hates? The bible tells us. Here are some things mentioned. God hates: Unjust scales Proverbs 11: 1, 20:23. God doesn’t want to see people cheated. That’s good for us to remember at tax time and in our dealings with others. I think it also applies not just financially but to cheating others in what we give to a relationship. Boasting and those who do iniquity, lies and deceit, violence and bloodshed, Psalm 5:5-6. Divorce, Malachi 2:16. Notice, God does not say he hates the divorced person but divorce. Life long marriage of one … Continue reading

More Wisdom From Proverbs

Yesterday we looked at Proverbs 30:5-6. Today we’ll look at Proverbs 30:7-9, where the writer asks two things of God. The first is: ‘Keep falsehood and lies far from me.’ This could be read as keep me from telling lies to others. We often want to grade lies. It’s easy to slip into what we term ‘white lies,’ so as not to hurt another person’s feelings, or because we want to please them or make ourselves look good but God makes no distinction. Lies are lies. Proverbs 19:5 says ,’he who pours out lies will not go free.’ The idea … Continue reading

Have You Lied to Yourself?

Have you ever lied to yourself? That’s what I realized I had been doing all day yesterday. I woke with a sore throat and clogged head but I was determined to go to singing practice. Having missed the last few weeks I desperately wanted to be there so I could help lead the singing at church on Sunday. I took the required tablet. ‘I’m fine,’ I told myself. I perpetuated the lie later in the afternoon though I started feeling worse. As we were having dinner, the rain came- driving, pelting rain. Common sense insisted it was stupidity to go … Continue reading

Are Little Fibs Harmless?

Granted, I will admit that a relationship should be built on trust and honesty. However, do you ever tell your spouse little fibs? Do you think your spouse ever fibs to you? The fibs that I am talking about really carry no significance other than the fact that you are being lied to! They are the little fibs that I know some spouses tell just to appease the other. I feel that men are much more guilty of these avoidance fibs than women. The ones I am referring to are those little fibs that the husband tells when he says … Continue reading

Week in Review: White Lies to White Rags

This week I talked about the potential damage white lies can do, a lesson we can teach our children when a siren sounds, God’s “valentine” to us, being the woman I want to be, and an analogy of sin. In Dishonesty and the Little White Lies, I wanted to talk about the potential dangers of telling even half truths. I don’t know a person alive who hasn’t lied and even those of us who value integrity and are better at avoiding outright lies often have a hard time with little white lies and half truths when used with the best … Continue reading

What Satan Wants You to Believe: Part 2

Part 1 of this two part series I addressed the lies of Satan: Denying Jesus as God, that God’s power is no longer here with us, questioning the accuracy of the Bible, and the beliefs that people who do signs in wonders in Jesus name are all of God. So, here I’ll continue: Question what God Says. “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?” By Satan causing Eve to question the Lord’s sincerity and warning about the tree, Eve justified partaking of the fruit as did her husband. Justify what is sinful. This … Continue reading

What Satan Wants You to Believe: Part 1

The Following is part 1 of a two part series on the lies of Satan and how he would have us believe: Deny that Jesus is who the Bible claims Him to be. Jesus is the Son of God; God manifested in the flesh (see 1 Timothy 3:16). In believing Jesus is not who He claims in the Bible to be, it would make a liar out of Him; it would make the Bible not truth, and our faith in vain. Deny the Power of God still moves today. By not believing that God can guide us, comfort us, heal … Continue reading
