Getting Your Kids Involved in Being Frugal

Are your kids part of your frugal lifestyle? I love involving my children in our family’s frugal practices and ideals. By having them involved, they learn some good lessons, such as managing money in a sensible way and reusing items in a disposable world. Another positive aspect of teaching them about frugal practices early on is the fact that they get to spend more time with us, as parents, following along and helping as we do what we can to save. I have young children. The eldest of my three is five-and-a-half, so there are limits to what they can … Continue reading

There is no such thing in my mind, as being too frugal. In fact, when you look up dictionary.com’s definition for frugal, they pull from other resources to get several definitions. Because it points out … Continue reading

Can You Be Too Frugal? (1)

Very often I hear about how frugal I am. And the statement or question, I hear the most often is “Can you be too frugal?”. I choose to address this question, simply because there isn’t a definitive yes or no answer. And because I plan to do a series of articles revolving around organizing all the frugal things you save. A question came in recently that was quite unusual from my typical frugal living questions. I was asked “Why do you choose to write organizing articles in the frugal living area?”. That is a great question actually, and I’d love … Continue reading

Lifestyles: Does Your Home Fit Your Lifestyle?

You may dream about having a living room that looks like a showroom, but is it conducive to everyday living? Not so much, especially if you have a family. On the other hand, if you’re single or if your kids have grown up and moved out, why not? It’s your home; it should be suited to how you live. For families, that often means paring down expensive artwork, furnishings, and accessories, and opting instead for durable pieces that will last. Still, that does not mean your home can’t be beautiful, inviting, and attractive. It simply means you don’t keep priceless … Continue reading

Women’s Fitness: Ladies, Our Lifespan is Getting Longer

When the 20th Century dawned, the average life span of a woman was about 50 years. At the dawn of the 21st century, our average lifespan is about 84 years. There are more people alive over the age of 50 today than there have been at most other times in our natural history. In fact, I know lots of women, my mother included – who at the age of 60, is more physically active than women half her age. Modern medicine contributes a great deal to our longevity. Fewer women die in childbirth and complications during and after. Fewer women … Continue reading

Low Cost Low Carb

Low carb eating is still a popular trend for weight loss, although it can be very expensive. For some, it’s worth the extra cost because they can lose weight without feeling hungry or deprived. You can enjoy those benefits too, but without spending a fortune. There are many foods that are naturally low in carbs and you can purchase whole foods for less than the price of processed foods. For example, a dozen eggs costs very little and eggs are a good source of protein. Eggs don’t have to be reserved for the breakfast table. An omelet makes a great … Continue reading

Honor thy Mother

Last month, I talked about the fact that we needed to Honor Thy Mother this month as a part of the celebration of motherhood. We should honor the gifts they have given us – our bodies and our selves. Over and over again, I have stressed here that taking care of yourself is about your whole family. With today being Mother’s Day – today is a great day to remember that. When you go out to eat or prepare your meal tonight – choose from a healthy selection of foods. Instead of fried, go for grilled. Choose leaner meat such … Continue reading

Men Are Not From Mars . . .

They are from Earth. They are born into the same world as women, albeit from a different perspective. They have needs, they have wants and they have desires. Men also have fears, talents, drive, flaws and willpower. They have weaknesses too. Like women, men also respond to marketing, technology and explanations that are geared towards them. Men don’t want to look better; they want to look stronger. Men don’t want to look younger; they want to feel younger. Men don’t want to get into their emotional well being or stability; they want to have fun. They don’t want to talk … Continue reading
