Helping Young Marrieds

If you’ve been married a few years or a long while, how prepared are you to encourage and help those just starting out on the marriage path? Recently a couple I know celebrated their twentieth wedding anniversary. Someone commented that in this day and age where many marriages never last anywhere near that long, this couple is an encouragement to others. I remember too when I said once how long Mick and I had been married the person looked at me in stunned amazement. She then congratulated me on our long marriage. Funnily enough it doesn’t seem that long at … Continue reading

What’s Wrong with Young Marriages?

You often hear meaning people say that some couples are too young to get married. There is a theory and some evidence to suggest that young marriages don’t work. Defying the Odds

There are always exceptions to any rule. Statistics can give a general pattern of society’s trends but there are always those that defy the odds and do not fit the general pattern. As Mary Ann’s blog mentioned most families had step parents, step sisters, stepbrothers. Listening to many of the … Continue reading

Building a Hedge Around Your Marriage

You may have heard the terminology of building a hedge around your marriage. I first became familiar with this term while listening to a pastor at church preach on the subject. But even if you aren’t religious, you can use this advice to help protect your marriage. Did you know that 70 percent of all married men and 60 percent of all married women have had affairs? This information comes from Dr. Holly Hein, author of the book, Sexual Detours. That translates roughly into only one out of three marriages where the husband and the wife are completely faithful to … Continue reading

Longest Celebrity Marriages

People joke about celebrity marriages being between two members of a different species rather than two members of the human race. In other words, one actual year of marriage can be translated into 10 celebrity marriage years, as if these people were dogs or cats. Now granted, I am sure the pressure in a celebrity marriage must be astronomical. Everyone is focused on every little thing celebrities do, and I am sure things get misconstrued, leading to more problems. But every marriage has its weaknesses and its strengths, and celebrity, like anything else, might be able to pull two people … Continue reading
