Two Love Stories

Last Friday Mick took me to the movies. We saw ‘Nights in Rodanthe.’ I’m a big fan of Nicholas Sparks and read the book some time back, so as soon as I saw the movie on I wanted to go. Mick had been through two previous films from books by Nicholas Sparks. ‘The Notebook’ was the first which he thought was a beautiful though sad story and well acted. If you haven’t seen it, it is the story of a couple’s over and how when she has Alzheimer’s he keeps reminding her of their love their story. Though he enjojed … Continue reading

Love Letters: Do You Know Who Mildred Loving Is?

It’s been 40 years since Mildred Loving became infamous and I say infamous because despite her actions and her heart, she wasn’t painted with the same brush as Rosa Parks. Rosa Parks, as you may know, was the black woman who took a seat on a bus and launched a Civil Rights movement. Mildred Loving is a black woman who fell in love and married a white man in segregated Virginia 40 years ago. History in Love In a rare interview with the Associated Press, Mildred Loving stated that she doesn’t consider herself the hero that many other mixed race … Continue reading

Friends & Lovers Despite her outspoken nature, Hepburn was an intensely private woman and her infamous relationships with Hugh Hefner … Continue reading

Welcome Home Laura!

Laura Spencer returns to General Hospital this week and it’s an event worth mentioning. More than 20 million viewers watched the wedding of Luke and Laura Spencer and for the last four years, Luke has been flying solo on the soap opera while ‘wife’ Laura languishes in a catatonic state off-screen. The absence of Laura is something many fans have been feeling over the last few years as Laura’s children have gone through their ups and downs and Luke has suddenly become this deadbeat dad (something he never was when Laura was up and about.) In Laura’s absence, her eldest … Continue reading

It’s Father’s Day, so many of us will be doing fun stuff with our spouses. My daughter is going to take my husband out to see Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties because the two of them love Garfield and she’s saved up the money to take him to the movies. This afternoon, however, when she is napping, we’re going to pop in the movie 50 First Dates (his idea, believe it or not!). So why is 50 First Dates a great movie for a Sunday afternoon? First of all, do an Adam Sandler double feature of The Longest Yard … Continue reading
