Last week, the election results were delivered in bittersweet accompaniment to the death of beloved Leo McGarry. This week, The West Wing observed the passing of this tour d’force in their lives and careers. A funeral episode is hardly a new thing to The West Wing, in the second season – the episode Two Cathedrals honored the passing of the President’s beloved personal secretary Mrs. Landingham. Last December, John Spencer died suddenly from a heart attack. His death stunned and saddened his cast mates and fans of West Wing alike. His death also spawned a change, according to the writer’s of The West Wing for what would happen during the Election between Presidential Candidates Matt Santos(Jimmy Smits) and Arnold Vinick (Alan Alda) as the inheritor of the soon to be exiting Josiah Bartlett’s (Martin Sheen) Presidential office. The West Wing is available on DVD for seasons 1 – 5. Each season contains about 22 episodes and spans about a year in the life of the administration. Time is fluid in The West Wing universe. The first season actually opens in the second year of the administration.
