Evel Knievel Dead at 69

Legendary daredevil jumper Evel Knievel died today at the age of 69. He had been in bad shape for years, suffering from Hepatitis C, diabetes, and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. Ah, when I was growing up, I loved Evel Knievel. Or maybe I really just loved George Hamilton after watching the 1971 movie Evel Knievel that starred George as Evel. Did you know the fastest growing segment of motorcycle owners in the country wears skirts? I live in Harley country so seeing women on the back of souped up hogs is nothing out of the ordinary. Steve McQueen Auction: Cool for Sale

Steve McQueen was and always will be the King of Cool. Even 26 years after his death (due to mesothelioma), he is still a pop culture icon. Almost as well known for his love of racing as his acting, Sheryl Crow paid homage to him in her song titled “Steve McQueen” – “Like Steve McQueen, All I need’s a fast machine.” Unfortunately, it was this love of racing that might have contributed to his premature death as he wore asbestos-insulated suits in the racecars.
