Weight Doesn’t Matter

Sometimes we get so wound up in the numbers that we forget that weight isn’t everything. What really makes a difference in how we look and feel is the amount of bodyfat on our bodies. You could weigh 98 pounds but still look fat if you had 40% bodyfat. Then again, you could weigh 180 pounds and have 20% bodyfat and be a knockout! No matter what you weigh, if your bodyfat is within a healthy range, you’ll look fantastic. The only real way to reduce bodyfat is to start a regular and productive exercise regimen and to eat healthy … Continue reading

The Fitness Blog Week in Review for July 30 – August 3

It was a quiet and simple week here in the Fitness blog. Look for some serious ramp up next week as we get ready for the Back to School rush and tackle things like what you can do for your local P.E. programs and how to manage your fitness schedule around work, school and much more. In the meanwhile, let’s take a look at our week in review: Monday, July 30th U is for Uniforms and we all have our own specific fitness uniforms. They serve a dual purpose: making you comfortable while you work out and putting you in … Continue reading

Y is for Yoga

You had to know that I was going for the obvious when I got to Y – X was harder to deliver on, but in fitness, Y almost always stands for yoga. You don’t have to be in perfect shape or uber flexible to do yoga. In fact, yoga is not only a great way to get in shape, it’s also a great way to calm your mind and increase your sense of personal focus. As a workout form, yoga is more than 5,000 years old. You use a series of positions, poses and postures to stretch, shape and tone … Continue reading

Spring Forward to Action: Put Your Best Foot Forward

As I mentioned Wednesday in: What Are We Doing?, we’re focusing on endurance this month and today is our second day of the official Spring Forward to Action plan and since I’m working on endurance, here’s what my workout plan for today looks like: 30 minutes on the treadmill at a comfortable 2.7 pace – this is my warm-up for the day Roller skating for fun – 30 minutes or so 20 minutes of yoga – always a great way to get the body and the mind in sync in the morning Okay, that was the plan for putting my … Continue reading

Demonic Doors

Demonic oppression happens a number of ways. We as believers genuinely in Christ cannot be possessed by demons because what fellowship has light with darkness (2 Corinthians 6:14). This does not mean that we can’t open doors for demonic oppression in our lives. As a Christian, I believe the Holy Spirit will guide us to truth as we seek the Lord. God is gracious to work in us, changing our hearts to desire what He wills for us. Still, not everyone is receptive or at the point in their walk where they discern things in their lives that can draw … Continue reading

Valentine’s Day Ideas: Partner Yoga

I was excited to find out that my gym would be offering a Partner Yoga class the week of St. Valentine’s Day. Basically, you can bring your significant other, a friend or be paired up when you get there, unless the class specifies “couples only.” The main idea of partner yoga is to enjoy the regular poses from a new perspective. If you go with your significant other, then you’ll be able to create closeness in a challenging, but fun way. Don’t be scared away by preconceptions that anything risqué will occur; this is intimacy without the sexuality. If you’re … Continue reading

The Fitness Blog Week in Review Jan 13-19

What a week – a very long week here. I’m writing these weeks in review ahead of time to give myself some down time this weekend so – if you haven’t had some down time recently and find yourself in the need of it – create the time. We all need that down time here and there and I said goodbye to two old friends this week and I am not afraid to admit – that emotionally, I’m tired. So without further ado – here is a quick cool down of our week in fitness. Saturday, January 13 Great Myths: … Continue reading

The Fitness Blog Week in Review for Jan 6-Jan 12

Good morning, it’s a soggy Saturday here. It started raining yesterday and it’s been quite drenching. They are worried about freezing temperatures and there’s every chance we’ll have freezing rain and ice storms today so I have a feeling we’ll be fairly housebound for the weekend. That’s all right; we’ve plenty to do to amuse ourselves. Our daughter got Dance, Dance Revolution for Christmas and it’s time she and I spent some time together dancing our little tushies off. But before we dive into that, here is our Fitness Blog week in review. Saturday, January 6 Personal Fitness Challenge – … Continue reading

The More Things Change; The More They Stay the Same

Good morning and Merry Christmas. I wanted to take a few minutes to talk to you about fitness and exercise, but without all the breast beating of why aren’t you getting more of it and what you need to do to get fit. Instead, I want to talk to you about the fact that while much of our world stays the same, the world of fitness is ever changing. The World of Exercise In the world of exercise, things change all the time. There are always new developments in classes, research, equipment, videos, gadgets, web sites and more. Just a … Continue reading
