Classic TV: In Search Of

The other day, I mentioned how storm chasers were covered on the show “In Search Of” and how much I loved that show. It’s original run was from 1976 to 1982 and it was hosted by none other than Mr. Spock himself, Leonard Nimoy. As the show opened, Leonard gave us a taste of what was to come with the opening “Lost civilizations, extraterrestrials, myths and monsters, missing persons, magic and witchcraft, unexplained phenomena. “In Search Of…” cameras are traveling the world, seeking out these great mysteries. The Serpent on the Crown – Elizabeth Peters

Neither Emerson nor Amelia have ever been able to abide hysterical females, although Emerson and Ramses both feel a gentlemanly sense of obligation to assist them out of their hysteria. What does hold their fascination is a solid gold statue she gives into their care, telling them she believes the statue is cursed, and if she … Continue reading

With a bit of confusion caused by Ronald and Donald, a girl named Enid, and the kidnapping of Ramses, the mystery promises to baffle the most eager adventure seeker, but not Amelia Peabody! It would appear that the Master Criminal … Continue reading

Rebecca — Daphne DuMarier

I was first introduced to this story in an old movie theater when I was about eight. It haunted and intrigued me, and I was thrilled to discover the book on my mother’s shelf some years later. “Rebecca” is the story of a young girl who is working as a companion to a stuffy, overbearing woman who is traveling abroad. While staying in a hotel in Monte Carlo, they meet Maxim De Winter, a handsome widower several years older than our heroine. He takes her on a drive one afternoon and she is completely bowled over by him. She feels … Continue reading

Lessons from Easter

Happy Easter! When I was growing up, Easter was a time for the Easter Bunny to sneak in a leave a few clues for where eggs would be hidden around the house. As an adult, I know it was my grandmother who made this special effort to make Easter a mystery treasure hunt rather than just a day for Easter egg hunting and an overabundance of chocolate. Rather than the typical candies, there would be gift certificates to bookstores, a promise note for a favorite meal or even a treat of movie tickets hidden inside the eggs. In order to … Continue reading
