A Time for Resolutions

New Year is a time for resolutions. Many are made but not so many are kept. So what is the point of resolutions? Resolutions are helpful if they focus our attention on areas that need to be changed. For example, last night, New year’s Eve here in Australia Mick and I resolved to get back into the habit of our regular bible study and prayer time together. When family is here or other things are happening, sadly it is all too easy for it to get pushed aside. So we’re looking at a study that focuses on different passages to … Continue reading

How to Stick to Your New Year’s Resolutions

The fresh start of a new year inspires lots of people to make New Year’s resolutions. Some of the most popular resolutions include losing weight/exercising more, saving money/managing debt, and stress reduction. What’s on your resolution list? According to the IHRSA (International Health, Racquet, and Sports Club Association), January is the biggest month for new gym memberships — New Year’s is a huge boost for the exercise industry. But as many as forty percent of those new signups stop going within the first three months. (Some experts say the number is even higher than forty percent!) We make these big, … Continue reading

Making Healthy and Reasonable Resolutions

It’s that time of year: time to start thinking about New Year’s resolutions. I like the idea of a fresh start for the New Year. But I don’t always stick with my resolutions. I think that’s because I try to make them too big and too broad. Know what I mean? Get in shape. Eat better. Exercise more. They’re kind of nebulous and easy to forget. According to USA.gov, the most popular New Year’s resolutions include: Losing weight/exercising more/getting into shape Eating better/eating right Managing debt/saving money Quitting smoking Reducing stress Getting a better job Getting a better education Travel … Continue reading

Staying Ahead of Your New Year’s Fitness Resolutions

If you are firmly resolving to get in shape in 2009, then why not get a head start on your promise by burning fat over the holidays? It’s not as difficult as it might sound. By following the tips below you can get fit (and be two steps ahead of your New Year’s resolution) and still party like its 1999: Create a Home Gym. Use this “home gym” … Continue reading

Suggested New Year’s Resolutions for Adoptive Parents

I’m not going to look at my last year’s New Year’s Resolutions blog before I write this one. I’m just going to go with what’s on my mind now. So what is on my mind now? Too much, that’s what. I want to have more meaningful family conversations at the dinner hour. I want to find a book that the whole family can enjoy reading by the fireside in the evenings—and keep reading age-appropriate books with each child individually too. I want to do all my physical therapy exercises and see if I can finally quit re-injuring myself. I want … Continue reading

Do you do New Year’s Resolutions?

I don’t think I’m going to make any New Year’s resolutions this year. I am going to try to be a better mom, wife, friend, sister, daughter, granddaughter, employee, and overall person, be better organized, stop procrastinating and get more done, and learn as much as I can… but these are continuous goals. After all, aren’t each of us a work in progress? While I may not be setting any specific goals, I’d like to make time for spiritual growth and simply try to make sure I keep things in good perspective, prioritize, keep what’s really important at the forefront. … Continue reading

My Healthy New Year’s Resolutions

This past year has been full of big changes for me. The biggest one was my cross-country move. I am no longer one of the primary caretakers for my grandmother — the only person I have to take care of is myself. Well, myself and the dogs. But now that it’s just me, I have to confess that I’ve gotten somewhat lazy when it comes to my own care. Here are the things I’d like to do in 2008 for better health: Walk more. Yes, I walk the dogs at least four times each day, but it’s not the same … Continue reading

Embracing the New Year

I really at this time have no idea how I will spend New Year’s Eve. However, I hope to spend it with the love of my life, my husband. There are many different ways that people bring in the New Year. Some prefer a calm entering and celebrate with the family just trying to keep everyone awake until midnight. Others prefer that it come in with a boom. They stay out celebrating hardly until no more celebrating can be tolerated. Others are very nervous about the entire New Year’s Eve traditions anyway. As most have heard you should have someone … Continue reading

Moose and Lally’s New Year’s Resolutions

With 2008 just a few days away, the dogs and I sat down to work on our New Year’s resolutions. Moose’s New Years Resolutions Moose resolves to stay out of traffic. For the rest of his life. He’s been pretty good since he got hit by a car back in June, but sometimes in the apartment complex parking lot, he has a bad habit of straying into the middle of the road between spots. Moose resolves to lose more weight. When we moved west in May, Moose weighed more than 100 pounds. His ideal weight is closer to 75. Slowly … Continue reading

Celebrating New Year’s Eve

How have your New Year’s Eve celebrations changed over the years? When we marry or have children or other major events occur in our lives, we tend to change the way we do things. I remember times where I got dressed to the nines to go out and paint the town. Sometimes, I think it would be fun to do so again, but I’ve also grown to enjoy the night at home with the kids drinking sparkling grape juice, dancing to their latest music, playing games, and watching various celebrations on TV from around the world. Going out to dinner … Continue reading
