John Cena Talks Smack about Dwayne Johnson

Do you remember when Dwayne Johnson just went by the name The Rock and talked about the People’s Elbow? Yeah, neither do most of those at the Nickelodeon’s Kid’s Choice Awards show he hosted last night. Wrestler turned actor John Cena appeared on the award show last night, but Cena doesn’t seem to completely agree with the path Johnson has taken. Johnson came from a family of wrestling legacy (both is father Rocky Johnson and maternal grandfather Peter Maivia were wrestlers), but he hasn’t wrestled in the WWE full time since 2003. After an attempt at the obvious action hero … Continue reading

Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards

The Nickelodeon is celebrating its 23rd annual Kids’ Choice Awards (KCAs) on March 28th. Now, I will have to watch because Dwayne Johnson (The Rock) will be hosting, but others will be watching for different reasons. Jamie Lynn Spears Gives Birth and Britney Updates

Jamie Lynn Spears has given birth to a baby girl named Maddie Briann. Jaime Lynn gave birth this morning in a Mississippi hospital at 9:30 am, with Maddie reportedly weighing in at 7 pounds, 11 ounces. Her family – big sister Britney, dad Jamie, and brother Bryan – flew in yesterday to be with her. Her mother Lynne was already there helping her prepare for the arrival of the baby. Since she had announced her pregnancy last December, Jamie Lynn, the star of the Nickelodeon show Zoey 101, has been lying low in her home state of Louisiana. There is … Continue reading

Welcome to SpongeBob SquarePants World

It’s not exactly as massive as Walt Disney’s theme parks, but parents of SpongeBob SquarePants fans are thrilled just the same. In just a few days SpongeBob wannabes will get the chance to chow down on Krabby Patties and chili kelp fries before taking a 60-foot plunge on the Splat-O-Sphere. It all happens this Saturday when Nickelodeon opens Nickelodeon Universe smack in the middle of Minnesota’s Mall of America. The standalone theme park is set on seven acres in the middle of the world famous shopping center and features nearly 30 rides, along with live performances, visits from costumed characters … Continue reading

Kids Choice Award Nominees

I guess since I have a preschooler, I should begin paying more attention to this stuff. But frankly, unless the Backyardigans or Wonder Pets show up, I think Will could careless about these awards – for now at least. But, I am sure my time is coming! Nickelodeon announced the nominees for its Oscars yesterday – the 21st annual Kids Choice Awards. Who received the most nominations? Shrek the Third received four nominations – Favorite Animated Movie and three nominations for Voice from an Animated Movie (for Michael Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz). Miley Cyrus, who seems to be … Continue reading

Pop Culture Milestones: A Day Without TV and A Day Without Britney

If your child comes running through the house tomorrow screaming about the television being broken DON’T call a repairman. Especially if your mini-couch potato is a fan of Nickelodeon. The cable network will be broadcasting nothing but dead air on Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. (EDT/PDT) as part of its fourth annual “Worldwide Day of Play.” It’s Nickelodeon’s way of encouraging kids to get off the couch and get moving—-preferably outside with other children. Of course, the network has to make money somehow so that evening Nickelodeon is airing “Let’s Just Play Go Healthy Challenge” a show chronicling the … Continue reading

Dora the Explorer

If you are the parent of a pre-schooler, you most likely know all about “Dora the Explorer.” Dora is a little girls who has a monkey friend named Boots. They go on adventures together, whether it is to find a bird’s home or to make a cake for Dora’s Mami. “Dora the Explorer” is a wonderful way for children to learn deductive reasoning and to pick up on some simple Spanish words. There are always three things that Dora and Boots need to remember in order to complete their task of the day. They ask the audience (your child) for … Continue reading

You Can’t Do That on Television – Nickelodeon is…

With so many networks available for kids to watch these days, Nickelodeon is making good on a very old promise from their own infancy. A show used to air on their network called: You Can’t Do That on Television and today, they continue with that theory by telling kids to turn off the television and go outside to play. In recent memory, the Nickelodeon channel has hosted four on air challenges and according to news reports, they’ve helped some kids to lose up to 30 pounds as they inspire children and their families to eat healthier and exercise more. The … Continue reading

TV Network Tells Kids: “Go Outside and Play”

In May I entered my 11-year-old cousin’s bedroom to see big black X’s on his calendar. He explained that he was counting down the days until summer vacation. When I asked him what he was most looking forward to doing during his break from school he replied: “Sleeping late, playing basketball, and watching TV.” (Though, not necessarily in that particular order.) How many kids do you know who have opted to lounge in front of a TV instead of by a pool? Well, if their channel surfing lands them on the cable network Nickelodeon they’re in for a rude awakening. … Continue reading

Nick Jr.

Nickelodeon has something a little different these days from the programming they had when I was younger. I remember the video show “Nick Rocks” and the funny yet disgusting “You Can’t Do That on Television,” where now-popular music star Alanis Morissette got her start. “The Monkees” in syndication made me fall for Mickey Dolenz who, unbeknownst to me, was already in his forties by then. The all-knowing “Mr. Wizard” and “Pinwheel” were the only educational programs that I recall seeing. Nowadays, Nickelodeon features Nick Jr. during the day. Fun, educational shows are the focus of this part of Nickelodeon. Of … Continue reading
