Have You Heard the One About the Boy and the Penguin?

Not too long ago my husband told me an outrageous story a co-worker had told him about a boy who smuggled a penguin out of an aquarium in his backpack. He swore up and down the story was true, and he believed it was, but I wasn’t falling for it. I told him I was going to check it out on Snopes and that’s exactly what I did. The result? It’s as I suspected. An urban legend. The Premise It’s told in different forms. The version Wayne told me was of a little boy who’d snuck off and had somehow … Continue reading

Surf’s Up (2007)

Have you ever wanted to step outside the norm, accomplish something that no one thought you could? That’s Cody Maverick (Shia LeBeouf) for you. When talent scouts come looking for new blood to compete in the Big Z Memorial competition, Cody is eager to go. As the competitors travel to Pen Gu Island, where the contest is to take place, he makes friends with Chicken … Continue reading

The Pebble and the Penguin (1995)

With a musical score by Barry Manilow, this animated film is, in my opinion, one of the best by Don Bluth, although due to disagreements in the production process, Bluth takes no credit for his work on the project. It’s mating season, and all the male penguins are on a special quest – to find a beautiful pebble to present to their sweethearts to signify their engagement. I guess that’s somewhat akin to the giving of a rock to wear on one’s finger, a strange custom practiced by humans. Anyway, … Continue reading

The other day I wrote about My Life as a Pets Blogger Parts I and II, but something I forgot to mention is how sometimes people pass neat stories or otherwise pet-related info my way. (Like Aimee did with an article that I referenced in Michael Vick Learns Animal Lovers Are a Force to Be Reckoned With.) Well, Aimee’s done it again, but so have a couple of others. I’d like to share with you what they shared with me, because you might find it equally interesting. The Michael Vick Pet Chew Toy This one came to me again courtesy … Continue reading

Weekend Wanderings: The Dallas World Aquarium

A few weeks ago, I lost a very good friend and since that time, I’ve made a new commitment to living life and to stop putting things off for another time or a so called better time. As a part of this commitment, my daughter and I have become weekend wanderers and we’re determined to explore our local area and visit the attractions, see the sights and learn what we can. So this week, I am introducing you to what I hope will be the first of many Weekend Wanderings. The Dallas World Aquarium Located in the West End, The … Continue reading
