RS/EQ: Developing a Friendship With the Savior

This week, you should be studying lesson three from the Teachings of the Presidents of the Church book. The lesson focuses on Christ and His role as our Savior and our God. As I studied the first two parts, I was touched by the depth of the love President Kimball obviously felt for the Lord. The first section, on the life of President Kimball, recalls a time when then-Elder Kimball left his sickbed to commune with the Savior and to celebrate his role as an Apostle. The scene painted so obviously reveals the love and emotion the man felt towards … Continue reading

Historical Fiction of the Ancient Time Period

Yesterday I mentioned that my children are currently studying the modern time period and listed books that we are reading, or plan to read. Next year, we are going back to the Ancient Times, another period that does not have many historical fiction books, (unlike the Medieval/ Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, and Romantic time periods). I figure I had better start building my library now. Here are some historical fiction books that will make good reads for the ancient time period. The Growing up in Ancient (insert country here) series includes all the important topics: customs, schooling, family life, food, clothing, … Continue reading

Historical Fiction of the Modern Time Period

Whether you use the Charlotte Mason Method of Homeschooling, or a more relaxed approach of reading your way through history, historical fiction books are wonderful tools. By reading historical fiction, children more closely associate with children or people of the time period they are studying. This will help them to remember facts and dates long after the books are put down. My children are currently studying the modern time period in their history class, and it has been a struggle for me to find age appropriate historical fiction books for them to read. There is just a whole lot more … Continue reading

Scripture Study & Learning Styles

Have you ever felt as though you weren’t getting the most you could possibly absorb from your scripture study? I’m not talking about the nights you skim over one verse and call it a day. Do you really apply yourself to your scriptures and can’t seem to comprehend them the most possible? Perhaps the problem comes from the fact that your learning style doesn’t mesh with your scripture study technique. There are three basic learning styles: visual, auditory, and kinesthetic/tactile. When we think of scripture study, we usually envision a person reading and perhaps pausing to ponder the words they … Continue reading

The Best Frugal Place To Be

Where is the best frugal place to be? The library of course! It’s free. Free? But isn’t a library card always free? I can hear you thinking that as soon as I typed those words. But guess what? First, not all library cards are free. I did some research and in some area’s there is a fee to obtain one. But that is really not the point. The point is using the library to remain frugal. And since anything and everything that is available at the library is free, and free is the frugal woman’s keyword, then the library is … Continue reading

Resources for Christian Blogging

When beginning to blog for Families.com, I imagined I would share some things I’ve learned during my walk with the Lord. I figured there would be times were I’d need to be inspired and what better resource than the internet, right? While this is so true; the internet has so much available information, I find myself just as often digging in books. In looking at my cluttered workspace now, I find 3 open books that are awaiting my examination: 1. My Bible is perhaps the number one tool I use. Even when I use the internet to look up certain … Continue reading

Seeking Inspiration for Christian Blogging

While driving home last night I asked the Lord to lay on my heart some topics to write about. As I settled in my home for the night I started getting a flood of ideas.
