Diary of a Cat Care B&B: The Test

Some days really test your coping skills. Today was one of those days at the cats-only boarding facility. Let me say right off the bat that I have some pretty awesome coworkers. The gal I worked with today did a HUGE share of the work while I dealt with one surprise after another. The worst surprise was the first one… but it really set the tone for the entire shift. The cat who was in the playroom overnight must have gotten spooked or upset or just plain sick — this morning, the room was full of poop. And when I … Continue reading

A Sunday in the Life…

I love my dogs. As I type, Lally is walking over and around the laptop (one of the perils of sitting on the bed to work). Moose is laying on the floor beside the bed, occasionally treating me to an SBD. But really, the most special part of the day was our walk earlier. I got home from work at the cats only boarding facility just after eleven. Like every other morning that I work, I stop long enough to drop off my purse and keys, grab the leashes, and head out with the dogs for a walk. Barely ten … Continue reading

Creative Messes

When it comes to making messes, it seems like pets are the pros! (Toddlers may be in the running for the Most Creative Mess title, too.) Something my dog Lally ate this week didn’t agree with her. (She tends to have a sensitive stomach.) I woke up to find little piles of barf (mostly bile) in the hallway. But they weren’t just any piles of barf — they were arranged in a circle, as if Lally was turning around as she was sick. If you imagine a compass rose, she had barf at all the cardinal points — north, south, … Continue reading

A Messy Wednesday

Looks like all three of us in the Amodio household (apartmenthold) aren’t feeling well today. I’ve been having some sort of allergy attack, complete with stuffy nose and post-nasal drip. On the four-legged front, Moose didn’t eat his breakfast — and he never misses a meal. And Lally barfed twice in the living room. A fun day for all. Of course, I was out of my usual favorite pet mess cleaner: Nature’s Miracle. That stuff is truly great for getting colorful messes out of the carpet AND neutralizing the scents that tempt pets to revisit the spot. But since I’m … Continue reading

When Is Vomiting An Emergency?

One truth of pet ownership: you’re going to have to deal with barf. And poop. And sometimes both. There’s nothing quite like waking up to the sound of a hairball in progress, or a beloved pet yakking up her latest meal. Most times, vomiting or diarrhea isn’t an emergency. Sometimes pets just eat something that doesn’t sit right, or eat too fast, or just get too excited or nervous. Moose tends to get diarrhea after spending an afternoon running around with the energetic puppy Casey. All that play is just too much for his system to handle! Lally will sometimes … Continue reading

Sometimes, You Just Have To Laugh About It…

WARNING: This is not for the weak of stomach. It’s a story about poop, and a whole lot of it. I started my week with what I like to call POOPAPALOOZA 2006. The Moose held a poop party in the living room last night! I came down the stairs to an almost artistic crescent-shaped smear on the carpet. But that’s not all… oh no my friends… Moose had also squirmed his way behind the fake potted plant and created Lake Poop-erior in the corner. My boy is so very talented, he managed to poop INTO the baseboard heater. So. Very. … Continue reading
