Photography Week in Review for May 11-18, 2008

Have your photos been a bit uninspired recently? Perhaps it is time to consider taking a photo retreat. Whether you jet off to a whimsical destination or retreat to a tropical location, photo workshops serve as a wonderful inspiration for many amateur photographers. This week I dedicated two blogs to photo retreats in a place I am intimately familiar with–Hawaii. We also covered photo scanners, prepping for major photo ops, and we discussed the freedom that comes with digital photography. If you missed any of it now is your chance to get caught up. Features to Consider Before Purchasing a Photo Scanner

You finally made up your mind and decided to add a photo scanner to your home office. Congratulations! Now comes the hard part—-what to look for prior to making your purchase. RESOLUTION Hands down this is the main feature to consider when shopping for a scanner. Resolution is measured in pixels per inch (dpi). At least 2700 dpi is required to enlarge slides and negatives for an 8 x 10-inch print. Keep that number in mind when you’re out shopping. Though for the most part the majority of photo scanners on the market today scan at least at 3,200 dpi. … Continue reading

Why Invest in a Photo Scanner

So you finally moved into the 21st century and got yourself a digital camera. But what about all those boxes full of loose photos that are cluttering your basement. Which means pictures of your son’s … Continue reading

First, stand-alone ink-jet printers are fading fast. Stores are now filling their shelves with “all-in-one” printers that usually combine a printer, copier and scanner. What’s more, prices for these multi-purpose machines have fallen so dramatically that you can usually find an all-in-one device for the same price as a single-function printer. In my mind I look at these all-in-ones and rationalize that I’m getting a scanner … Continue reading

It’s true, but the one photo item I really, really want is listed at the end of this blog. But, getting back to the photo printers… if you are an avid photographer who is all about instant gratification, then you likely find it hard to live without an in-home photo printer. For do-it-yourself photographers inkjet printers are the key to getting your pics ASAP. Fortunately, prices on photo printers have fallen steadily over the past few years. If you are in the market for one, there are three important factors you should consider before forking over the money to take … Continue reading

Holiday Gift Ideas: Compact Photo Printer

Digital photographers have new reason to celebrate this holiday season. Canon just unveiled a new compact photo printer that the avid shooter or scrapbooker would be thrilled to unwrap this holiday season. The SELPHY CP740 Compact Photo Printer promises to print “superb digital images that will last for years to come.” The printer features a two-inch color LCD display, red-eye correction and multiple direct printing options that you can use without a computer. I have been eyeing this product since it came out a couple of months ago. I love the idea that you can take this printer with you … Continue reading
