Scrapping Pretty in Pink Moments

Prom is huge deal in the small town in which I reside. Everywhere you go these days you are greeted with marquees and banners advertising sales on prom this and prom that. Discounts on dresses, jewelry, shoes, and flowers are yours for the taking. Even our local scrapbook store is getting in on the action. This weekend the owner erected a display with prom-themed paper and embellishments. The sign hanging above the sample layouts reads: “Scrapping Pretty in Pink Moments.” Interestingly, I wore black to my senior prom, but I digress. Prom scrapbooks are not difficult to put together. In … Continue reading

Father’s Day Photo Montage

I mentioned in an entry the other day, that my husband is hard to shop for. Sometimes, instead of shopping I have great out-of-the-box ideas for presents. I wrote in another blog about the poster made of candy bars. My favorite gift for Father’s Day, and I think his too, was actually nothing I bought. I had a montage picture frame that we’d never used. I went through quite a few photo albums and found pictures of just him with our son, who was our only child at the time. I put the pictures in the frame – pictures of … Continue reading

Capturing the Spirit of Thanksgiving

This is peak season for scrapbooking. Once Halloween hits and we roll into Thanksgiving and Christmas, avid scrappers shift into marathon mode. With so many special occasions at hand, it’s often hard to keep everything straight. There are photos to take, edit and file; embellishments to buy or make; and journaling to write and proof. With Thanksgiving just a week away, now is the time to focus on the first step in creating a memorable scrapbook—-documenting. In order to fully capture the spirit of the holiday, it’s important to snap pictures that tell the story of your celebrations, and then … Continue reading

Summer Concert Scrapbooks

Country music may reign supreme deep in the heart of Texas, but here in Northern Wisconsin people are quite fond of boot scootin’ too. In fact, the Dairy State is home to one of the premier country music and camping festivals in the nation, Country USA. My country music-loving neighbor just returned from the multi-day concert which featured the likes of Sugarland, Keith Urban and The Band Perry. She ended up renting a VIP RV with a bunch of friends rather than camp in a tent. Judging by all of the photos she shared with me, she and her pals … Continue reading

Picture-Perfect Prom

Love is in the air… or maybe it’s teen spirit. Tis the season for high school sweethearts and groups of friends to embark on a spring ritual that helps define teendom–prom. Without a doubt the formal dance is one of the most memorable moments of one’s high school career, so it pays to capture every angle of the special night. For parents, that may mean taking a crash course in prom picture-taking. Some tips to consider include: Pay Attention to Details: This is a theme you should remember throughout the night in every aspect of your shoot. For instance, even … Continue reading

When It’s Hard to See the Good

Have you ever been surprised by a child’s accomplishment? As parents this might sound inconceivable but I have a confession to make…I am guilty of this. Last week was the annual “Legacy Awards.” This is a special night in our church’s youth group, where teens are nominated for a variety of things. All the teens get dressed up. And those who are nominated get to take a ride in a limo and then come down the red carpet while the paparazzi (the parents) snap pictures. It is just like the Grammy’s, where someone comes up (youth sponsors) and opens an … Continue reading

Snapping a high quality shot of your child on graduation day can go a long way to insure that the milestone lives on for generations to come. The possibilities are practically limitless when it comes to creating incredible keepsakes from a single graduation picture. However, before you can transform your images into photo gifts, you need to snap some decent shots. To do so, start at the beginning. The graduation ceremony provides a number of excellent … Continue reading

Preserving Grad Day Memories

Besides a wedding and the birth of a child, most people consider high school or college graduation to be one of the most important moments of their lives. And rightfully so given all of the time, energy and money it takes to earn a diploma these days. So, why not preserve the special moments by dedicating an entire scrapbook to the day’s events? Some people are reluctant to fill an entire memory book exclusively with commencement photos and memorabilia. The vast majority typically create a few layouts within a larger book. Regardless of the amount of layouts you plan to … Continue reading
