Baby Shakespeare: World of Poetry

Custard the dragon had big sharp teeth/And spikes on top of him and spikes underneath/Mouth like a fireplace, chimney for a nose/And realio, trulio, daggers on his toes. So begins “The Tale of Custard the Dragon” by Ogden Nash, and also the Baby Einstein DVD “Baby Shakespeare:World of Poetry.” In the midst of moving, I lost track of most of my daughter’s Baby Einstein DVDs. Now that I have access to them again, I can continue to write about them. My daughter had not watched “Baby Shakespeare: World of Poetry” in quite a while, so I popped that one into … Continue reading

Adoptee’s Poetry – Looking Through The Glass

I thought I’d share another piece of poetry today. It’s been really awesome reliving some of the memories, and the feelings that were associated with my search and subsequent reunion. Obviously there is so much more to my story, that will come out over the next several months. I really hope that some of these pieces will give other adoptee’s a sense of peace. A glimmer of hope, that knowledge that somebody else has been there, and completely knows how you feel. “Looking through the glass” – Nicole Humphrey I’m looking for the key to a burning fear inside. I … Continue reading

Adoptee Poetry: Never

As I’ve mentioned before that during my search for my biological family, I wrote a lot of poetry, essays and thoughts and feelings down. I have journals, notebooks and binders filled to over flowing with words I had to get out. It’s a safe place for me to go when depressed, angry or frustrated. Thankfully, most of my current day writing is much brighter and not as dark as back then. I do own the copyright on all of my own work, however I have not shared most of these publicly before. They have been posted on an adoption website … Continue reading

Friday Scrapbook Funnies: Introducing The Hilarious Thena

Long before Thena Smith was a published author of adorable scrapbook related poetry, I used to chat with her occasionally on a scrapbook message board. She was always one to help another scrapbooker in need of the perfect poem for a layout. She continues to help, but has now had a book published and is still queen poetry around some of the more popular message boards. I have saved over the years, some of the funnier poetry that Thena had shared with us. I thought I’d end our week by sharing two with you. I hope that you enjoy and … Continue reading

Shakespeare in Love

The film Shakespeare in Love is one of my favorites. Not just because it features Judi Dench. Not just because it tells the story of William Shakespeare and his love affair with a beautiful woman who is destined to be the bride of another. Not just because the tragedy of love is so highlighted within the plot of the movie and the plot of the plays that Shakespeare writes. But because the topic, love, is so readily and brazenly addressed, it is at different times in the movie equally exalted, mocked, embraced, disparaged, applauded and ultimately left unsatisfied. It recognizes … Continue reading

Saying Goodbye: The Rainbow Bridge

WARNING: If you have ever lost a pet, this might just make you cry. It makes me cry every time I read it. When my Miko passed away in September of 2003, I chose to have him cremated and have his ashes returned to me. The people at our veterinarian’s office were amazingly nice through the whole thing. Within a week after Miko’s passing, I got a call that he was ready to be picked up. I was expecting just a container of ashes. I got a lovely package with his ashes in a tin; a certificate promising that he … Continue reading

Friendship Theme – My Personal Album Day Eight Quotes and Poems

Since my Friendship Theme Album is finally complete, I thought I’d share some awesome friendship quotes and poems I found to include in my album. These would be great on your layouts, or even in cards you create and personalize. Quotes: “True friendship is like sound health; the value of it is seldom known until it be lost.” – Charles Caleb Colton “Each friend represents a world in us, a world possibly not born until they arrive, and it is only by this meeting that a new world is born.” – Anais Nin “My friends are my estate.” – Emily … Continue reading

Scrapbooking Your Adoption Experience

Scrapbooking your adoption experience is not a whole lot different than scrapbooking your everyday life. You create a page in the same manner you would a traditional layout. However, because your adoption experiences are so special and unique, you might wish to commemorate them into a whole album dedicated solely to the experience, and use special journaling, poems or quotes. I am part of the adoption triad, I am an adoptee. I have a great relationship with both my adoptive mother, and my biological mother. Both women are included in my albums. However, my experiences with searching for my biological … Continue reading

Interview with International Author, L.S. Keilbart

L.S. Keilbart and I go a ways . . . okay, a long ways. We were high school buddies, long before either one of us ever became published authors. We hail from a small southwestern Colorado town and when Linda went into the Navy, I headed to Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho. Life took us to separate ends of the world for many years and now, well, now we’re at least on the same side of the Mississippi. The author of the internationally acclaimed children’s book One. Linda has graciously agreed to be interviewed. It only took a couple of … Continue reading

Poetry From Adoptive Mother’s to Their Child

There are several adoption related poems that are special to me. I didn’t write them, but feel the words very deeply and thought I would share two of them here. Legacy of An Adopted Child Author Unknown. Once there were two women, who never knew each other. One you do not remember, the other you call mother. Two different lives, shaped to make yours one. One became your guiding star, the other became your sun. The first gave you life, and the second taught you to live in it. The first gave you a need for love, and the second … Continue reading
