Celebrating Tabby

We’ve had Tabby a year already? It seems hard to believe. It went so fast! But, yep, we have. It was one year ago today that our lives changed forever when I made the snap decision to screech to a stop in the middle of the road and snatch up the little cat lying in the middle of the street. What a year it’s been! It started out chaotic. In case you don’t remember or are a new reader, let me catch you up to speed: First we feared she might be pregnant. Then we found out she was when … Continue reading

Goodbye Birthdays, Hello Holidays

Okay, two more birthdays have come and gone and they are the last two of the year (at least as far as immediate or nearly immediate family goes). With each person another year older, presents unwrapped and currently occupying the living room, and finally the birthday goodies are almost gone, it’s time for me to start looking toward the holidays. With a smudge of birthday cake frosting still on my lips, I’m writing my list and starting to plan. Halloween is going to be easy. We already have most of what we need for costumes. A little candy and a … Continue reading

Is it Wise to Have Everything at Once?

When I say “everything” I’m not talking about material things, I’m talking about celebratory events. Birthdays, anniversaries, that sort of thing. Case in Point September is a big month for Wayne and I. • Wayne’s birthday is September 7th • My birthday is September 14th • Our wedding anniversary is September 16th • Murphy’s birthday (well, the day we got him) is September 23rd How’d You Manage That? Let me tell you, it was a complete fluke. All except for our anniversary. If we’d thought more about it, we might have picked a different day. As it was, we held … Continue reading

How Wii Are Celebrating Pleasure Your Mate Month (Among Other Things)

In addition to Pleasure Your Mate Month, the Team Pryor household has other super September celebrations underway. Wayne’s birthday on Friday basically kicked off the fiesta. My birthday comes next, exactly one week after Wayne’s. Two days after that we celebrate our wedding anniversary. Four days after that is my dad’s birthday. Three days later, on the 23rd, the festivities conclude with Murph’s birthday. Phew! What a month. Buying presents for my dad and Murph is easy. Exchanging gifts between Wayne and myself? Well, that’s never easy. And complicating it even more than usual this year is our impending move. … Continue reading

The Husband’s Having a Birthday (And It’s a Biggun’!)

This Friday Wayne hits a milestone: 40. Here’s what I had envisioned for his big birthday weekend: • Sabotaging the house the night before with balloons, streamers, banners and whatever other birthday decorations I could come up with so he’d wake up to birthday chaos. • Making a special breakfast of some sort. • Making his favorite dinner. • Making sure to have whatever desert he wants after. (He’s got a sweet tooth almost as bad as mine. However, where I’m predictable when it comes to cakes –give me chocolate!—he’s not so easy. He’s got a ton of favorite desserts, … Continue reading

Dr. Seuss Series: Happy Birthday to You!

This installment in the Dr. Seuss lineup was first published in 1959, and tells us all about the land of Katroo, where they really know how to wish someone a happy birthday. There’s a designated Birthday Honk-Honker, whose job it is to climb up to Mt. Zorn and blow the Birthday Horn. This heralds the triumphant entry of The Birthday Bird, a happy-looking fowl with a big smile on his face. He was trained by The Katroo Happy Birthday Association, and it’s his job to oversee your special day. The bird flies into your bedroom window and encourages you to … Continue reading

Pigtails and Toenails

It all started innocently enough. Last year, by the pool, my then seven-year old cousin took to prettying-up the adults’ toenails with non-toxic water paints as we relaxed around my parent’s backyard, by the in-ground pool, working on our collective sunburn. She took care of everyone, boys too. My dad sported a pale yellow, I was granted a lovely purple and my brother (her dad) a pleasant pink. My gal, then two, was the recipient of an orange and green combo. Over a year later, the novelty of having a vibrant color (or two) stare up at her has still … Continue reading

Water Play Fun!

There is just something about water play. I have never met a child that does not love playing in the rain, splashing in a pool or stomping through a puddle. The summertime, with its long days, hot sun and lack of school, simply screams for outdoor water play. Here are a few easy, fun and wet activities for the whole family to enjoy this summer! Sprinkler Time – Whether you own the traditional oscillating yellow sprinkler or a branded Dora or Sponge Bob plastic water twirler, a sprinkler is a fantastic and classic outdoor family activity. We just bought an … Continue reading

Making Sacrifices

As parents, we make many sacrifices for our kids. I’m normally okay with that but I realized today that this is not one of those times. You see my birthday falls on Easter this year. It’s happened before. A few times it fell on Good Friday. At first, I was excited until I realized that my birthday celebration was going to be overshadowed by Easter festivities. I thought I could handle it but I am ready to have a big ole hissy fit pretty soon. I decided that I would celebrate on Saturday. That I would do something I wanted … Continue reading

Family Birthday Celebrations

With six people in our family, we manage to make our own party, even if no one else is present. So, this week one of my daughters is having a birthday and it happens to fall on a weekday, leaving us to have a family party on the actual date. She’s planning to have a friend or three over on the weekend, but we’ll make sure she feels special on her big day. Some of the things we like to do for family birthdays are listed below. I hope you’ll like some of these ideas, or maybe you’ll share some … Continue reading
