Harry the Humanitarian

If Prince Harry had his way he would leave his royal life behind in England and move to Africa to help needy children there. The 23-year-old prince made the statement to reporters as he continued his month-long humanitarian mission in the impoverished African kingdom of Lesotho. The British royal solider is in the region trying to balance his army life and his charity work. For the next couple of weeks the handsome royal will work with Sentebale – the charity he and Lesotho’s Prince Seeiso founded in the memory of Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana. Four years ago Harry spent … Continue reading

Travel Tidbits: Royal Viewing and Happy Hybrids

I admit I was a die-hard Princess Diana fan. My mom woke me up at 2 a.m. Hawaii time to watch her fairy tale wedding to Prince Charles. I used my allowance to buy special editions of PEOPLE magazine whenever she was on the cover and I went gaga when her boys were born. So when it was announced that a dozens of Diana’s gowns were going to be displayed at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tampa in Florida, for a split second I considered making the trip (then reality hit and I remembered that I can barely … Continue reading

Can The Royals Finally Stop Running?

The British press is reporting that Prince William recently whisked girlfriend Kate Middleton to the scene of some of their first dates–the Highlands of Scotland. William and Kate are reportedly staying at Queen Elizabeth’s Balmoral estate where they are said to be engaging in their favorite field sports. It’s not earth-shattering news, but there are two points that intrigued me about the story. First, the young couple reportedly flew from London to Scotland on a British Airways flight and did not accept any special treatment. Which meant they were offered the same in-flight snack as all the other passengers–a choice … Continue reading

Camilla Banned From Princess Diana Memorial Service

That’s what some loyal Princess Diana fans would like people to think, but according to British newspapers, Prince Charles’s wife Camilla voluntarily decided to sit out Friday’s memorial service for the late Princess of Wales. Palace officials say Diana’s sons, Prince William and Prince Harry – who will lead the service, marking the 10-year anniversary of her death – extended an invitation to Camilla, and she had initially accepted. But once British newspaper columnists learned that the Duchess of Cornwall, had accepted the invitation from Charles and his sons, they unleashed a litany of postings urging her not to attend … Continue reading

Concert For Diana—What I Missed… What Did I Miss?

Who knew I would one day rue the day I didn’t have VH1? Our cable company doesn’t offer the music channel so I didn’t get to see Prince William and Prince Harry’s musical tribute to their mother in its entirety (Concert for Diana aired live on VH1 this morning). Instead, I was forced to settle for NBC’s extremely edited down one-hour version (which in my opinion was a joke) that aired tonight in primetime. After watching the mega-hyped “Concert for Diana” on NBC I felt gypped. First of all, Matt Lauer’s “Dateline NBC” interview with the princes, which aired last … Continue reading

Do You Want To See The Pictures?

Nearly a decade after her horrific death Princess Diana is still making headlines. The latest coverage includes pleas from Diana’s sons, Prince William and Prince Harry. The princes are going public with their wishes that a British television station not broadcast a series of photos taken immediately after the car crash that killed their mother in Paris on August 31, 1997. In a statement to network executives Prince William and Prince Harry maintained that showing the images in a documentary scheduled to air today would be a “gross disrespect to their mother’s memory” and “deeply distressing” to them. In a … Continue reading

Princess Diana’s Sons Plan Memorial Concert In Her Honor

Can you believe that it has been nearly a decade since Princess Diana died in that horrific car crash? Ten years since the entrance to her home was turned into a sea of flowers; her front gates transformed into a bulletin board of sorts, plastered with banners announcing the pain, shock and sorrow people from around the world felt when they heard the news of her death. It’s also been ten years since we watched her two visibly distraught sons walk silently behind her casket—–perched on top—a bouquet of flowers, and nestled among the blossoms a card that read simply: … Continue reading

Charles & Diana: A Love Story?

We’ve been talking about marriage and wedding planning here at the Marriage blog this month and I don’t think any wedding planning would be complete without talking about some of the great weddings of the last century. And I do mean the last century, not the current one. When I think of the great weddings of the last century, one of the first weddings to come to mind is that of Charles, Prince of Wales to Lady Diana Spencer. I was just nine years old when they were married in the summer of 1981. I remember my mother waking me … Continue reading
