Vicks VapoRub May Make Children Sicker

Chances are pretty good that you might have had Vicks VapoRub placed on your chest, the soles of your feet or under your nose when you had a respiratory illness as a child. My mother used this product so often on me that the local pharmacist used to put some aside for us whenever a new shipment came in. I’ve used it myself on my children, although only occasionally. And I am sure that we are not alone in using this product. One billion units of Vicks VapoRub were sold in the united states in the last five years. MSNBC.com … Continue reading

Home Product Recall: July 17, 2008

We all know about the massive toy recalls that have been in the news, of course. But there are many other recalls out there, including in home products. You might have a product that is deemed dangerous. Here are the current recalls involving home products, including furniture, outdoor items, health items and more. Outdoor Canopies Wanda Technology is recalling outdoor canopies that were sold exclusively at BJ’s wholesale club because they could pose a fire hazard to consumers. The 10 foot by 20 foot canopies were sold from January 2008 until about May 2008 for around $200. They are white … Continue reading

Where did all the Recalls go?

Is it just me? After constant reports of recalls on everything from ground beef and toys to pet food, it suddenly seems rather quiet. There are still recalls and tainted or otherwise dangerous products, but it seems like there should be some follow up to the issues that created such a stir. Concerning the ground beef, at least one company went out of business. Still, there are many others out there that produce and sell this food, and the question is what has been done to prevent future problems? Is the lead paint scare over? What kind of dog food … Continue reading

Check Christmas Decorations before packing away

If you haven’t yet taken down and packed away all your Christmas decorations for another year, now is a good time to check them all out. First, carefully examine glass or ceramic items for cracks or chips. Make repairs if possible or dispose of the potentially dangerous item. Also, check out lighted elements and strings of lights. If there are any exposed wires, if you had any trouble with the lights during the holidays, if any cords or plugs are damaged, it’s wise to replace them. They don’t cost that much, and the few dollars to replace them is well … Continue reading

Black Friday Comes Early

Retailers intend to kick off the Christmas shopping season early this year. In fact, some will begin today, three weeks before the typical Black Friday shopping extravaganzas. With high fuel costs, and other prices (including heating fuel) rising, people may be more cautious in their holiday spending. Numerous recalls of products from pet food and ground beef to toys and even toothpaste, have also left consumers with a bad taste in their mouths. All of these issues have retailers worried, so they are trying to give consumers a little nudge with earlier sales. As unsettling as all these issues may … Continue reading

Recall: Hasbro Easy Bake Oven

Kids love to imitate their parents. They love to do all the grown up stuff we do. Well, they like it until they actually have to do it, but pretending to do all that stuff is fun. That is why many of us grew up “cooking” with our Easy Bake Ovens, just like Mom. I had one. Did you? I also bought them for my girls over the years, but thankfully, I think we are beyond the fascination of the Easy Bake Oven. It was a cool idea and we had fun with it, but I am glad to be … Continue reading

Household Product Recalls

There are so many innovative household products available today, that homeowners could purchase a never-ending supply. Each day, new and exciting technology, gadgets, and other implements are invented and marketed to homeowners. Probably the most popular are those intended to make life easier in some way. I have a dust pan that lies flat on the floor and features a long handle, so you don’t have to bend over to collect debris after sweeping. What a great idea! It’s convenient and affordable, and a perfect example of a household product that sells because its simple. However, not all products are … Continue reading
