The Crawling Monster

My son has finally figured out crawling. He’s figured it out in a big way and my wife and I are starting to see what a massive change that actually is for our small family. Our son has the ability not only to move but to move quickly and decisively. I’m sure that all of the veteran parents are kindly laughing at me but it truly is quite a shock. Somehow I had thought that we’d seen the worst with his inaccurate wiggling from place to place. Boy was I wrong. Now our son doesn’t just not stay were we … Continue reading

Two Top Teeth

I feel like shouting from the rooftops! I feel like taking out a full-page advertisement in a newspaper! I feel like jumping up and down in a public place while screaming: MY SON HAS FOUR TEETH! I’m not entirely sure what this actually means for babies. Does this mean he’ll be eating steaks with Dad in the next couple of weeks? Does this mean that he’ll begin to start eating more adult foods with Mom and Dad? Does this mean that we’ll have be significantly more frightened about the possibility of him “biting off more than he can chew” and … Continue reading

Understanding Himself

While a title like “understanding himself” could end up being some sort of sentimental-type writing I’m at a loss for a better or more accurate title. My son is seven months old now and he’s obtained what can only be described (at the moment) as an understanding of himself and his environment. This seems to be a new chapter in his development as a human being. It is a very exciting realization and one that certainly reveals his personality more and more. I’m not entirely sure that there was a “moment” when this “understanding” became a reality. Some time during … Continue reading

A Bigger Business is Not Always Better

We often talk here in the Home Business blog about ways to grow and expand our businesses. Growth, overall, is considered a good thing. We need our businesses to grow and expand in order for them to stay healthy. Many of us are a little wary, however, about how big we really want to get. After all, we may have started our home businesses precisely because we needed something small and manageable and we wanted to get away from that big corporate mentality. The question we ask ourselves is whether or not a bigger business is necessarily a better one? … Continue reading

Is There a Touch of the Visionary in You?

What does it mean to be a visionary—especially as it relates to running a home business? A visionary is someone who is forward thinking; a person who can keep at least one eye turned toward the future and who is always on the lookout for ways to make improvements and changes. A visionary is able to tap into imagination and creativity and come up with new ideas. Like anything, too much “visionary” can make a person dreamy and unrealistic, but a little dose of that dreamy imagination can be great for our home business operations. Tapping into the visionary in … Continue reading

Practice, Not Perfection

We ARE moving forward, we are making progress, improvements, life changes, etc. We may not be exactly where we want to go yet, and some days it may seem pretty sloggy going, but overall we are making headway. I think it is important for us single parents to remember that while we might have a long-term goal or we might be working hard to get our lives back on track, it is about practice and baby steps–not immediate perfection. For me, it helps to think of it as “practice”–I am working on things; trying to make improvements; change my way … Continue reading

When in Doubt, Update

We try to share information here in the Home Business blog about how to stay in touch with industry trends, as well as how to keep your home business operations from becoming outdated. It is easy to get bogged down in the daily details, however, and not really know if it is time to make changes or updates to equipment, operations, contracts, etc. I have learned over time that while it is tempting to leave things the way they are, often it is better to at least look things over and consider updating—just to be on the safe side. Technology … Continue reading

Getting Too Comfy?

Does God really want us to be comfortable? If someone had asked me years ago I would have told them yes because I believed God wanted us to be happy and He wants good for our lives. I know now the reality about being too comfortable in our walk and the destruction it can be in our lives. As long as we are living in this sin filled world we will not arrive at perfection. This does not mean we shouldn’t make great efforts to do better and be better though. God deserves nothing less than the best we have … Continue reading

An Argument for Evolution

Yes, I see you doing a double take. Wasn’t it Tristi who just yesterday posted a blog about how she doesn’t believe in evolution, and how she firmly believes in the creation? Indeed, you are very observant. That was me. However, I do not speak of evolution in the “we came from monkeys” sense of the word. I absolutely do not believe we came from monkeys, despite the myriad evidences I see around me every day, exhibited by persons who act like monkeys. I believe we came directly from our Heavenly Father, and that monkeys didn’t enter the equation at … Continue reading

Keeping in touch with Teachers

We send our children off in the morning, somewhere around 8am, not to hear from them again until around 3pm. That’s at least six hours of no communication with your children, we don’t know what they’re doing, who they’re hanging out with, or even if they’ve eaten all their lunch. Sending your child off to school can actually be a little nerve racking sometimes. How many of you have had a child come home and say that it was a bad day because so and so was picking on them, or they had a fight with their friend? How do … Continue reading
