Factory Tours Are Fun And Free!

One of the most overlooked form of family fun is the factory tour. From watching a chip flip to witnessing marshmallow peeps being born, kids and adults will be fascinated during this great family activity. My family and I have visited many factory tour programs, and we have always had a great time. The tours are usually very kid-friendly and family oriented. Tour guides have always been super nice, and the factories are eager to show off their stuff. Free samples are almost always given. Ever eat a potato chip hot from the fryer? Yummy! Most of the tours are … Continue reading

And That’s Why They’re Called Classics!

Ever since the moving picture was first invented, Hollywood has given us great films, marvelous actors, beautiful actresses, daring stunts, and dazzling musical numbers. Unfortunately, many of these older films have been shoved aside in favor of newer, more high tech models. Don’t get me wrong; I love the movies of today. But there is just something about a whispered love spoken by moonlight, followed by a whiz-bang tap dance number, that nothing can touch. We lived in Magna, Utah, for a time when I was a girl. Near us, on State Steet in Sandy, was an old theater called … Continue reading

Am I Bored or Am I Boring?

It’s a different day in a different year and yet when I woke up this morning and tore off the page on the calendar for the last time and put up the new one, I had to be somewhat amused. Last night, my husband and I decided to forgo any of the parties and celebrations. We hung out together and had Arby’s roast beef sandwiches for dinner. It was nice to just hang out and enjoy ourselves having a quiet evening together. Are We Bored? This is a question many married couples may ask of themselves or of each other … Continue reading

Little Einstein DVD

Trying to decide on the best DVD for your child can be challenging. With so many different options on the market, you obviously want something that adds educational value, not just color and fluff. After reviewing a number of DVD’s, I came across one called Little Einstein, which is perfect for preschool age children. This particular video runs for a little over an hour and being produced by Disney, you have the confidence knowing it is age appropriate. The Little Einstein – Our Huge Adventure is interactive, combining real footage along with music, art, and animation. The result is an … Continue reading

“The View” News: Rosie’s Apology and Star’s New Gig

Is it too little too late? Rosie O’Donnell used ABC’s “The View” as a venue to make a formal, on-camera apology and directly address the issue of her now-infamous attempt at “humor” by imitating a Chinese person. O’ Donnell replayed the offending segment, which originally ran December 5th, then issued this statement: “This apparently was very offensive to a lot of Asian people. So I asked Judy, who’s Asian and works here in our hair and makeup department. I said, ‘Was it offensive to you?’ And she said, ‘Well, kinda. When I was a kid people did tease me by … Continue reading

Radio Stations Temporarily Change Format

I do not know if you have experienced this or not, but here in Jacksonville, North Carolina, we have had two stations that have gone from their normal format to 24 hour Christmas music through the holidays. It seems to be a growing trend! In fact, there are approximately 399 stations in the U.S. that have temporarily changed their formats and are playing Christmas music constantly. Portland, Oregon has two stations, but some cities – I am assuming cities like New York or Los Angeles – have as many as five stations doing this. Most stations begin their “new” broadcasting … Continue reading

Frugal Indoor Entertainment for Kids: Host a Fashion Show

We’ve been avoiding the outdoors like the plague lately. It’s chilly, brisk and almost slightly uncomfortable. I actually dislike it when it’s really cold one day and actually warm the next day. It’s the worst time of year and it’s when kiddo’s get sick the easiest. We try to entertain indoors as much as possible so we can avoid the craziness of the winter chill in the air. We tried something fun – we hosted a fashion/music show. It was so easy and it lasted at least an hour or more, because the kids kept at it even after the … Continue reading

Liken the Scriptures: Nephi and Laban

The first movie in the Liken the Scriptures Gold Series, and in fact the first movie they made, tells us about Spencer, a little boy who’s having a really hard time sitting still in church. Instead of listening to the Sharing Time presentation about Nephi and his family, Spencer would rather play with his toy car. His Primary teacher takes him out into the hall and challenges him to use his imagination to make the story come to life in his mind, and Spencer takes her up on it. Before he knows it, he’s seeing the story in living color, … Continue reading

The Guest Room: If You’ve Got It, Flaunt It

The Guest Room: If You’ve Got It, Flaunt It Many people today can’t rely on a traditional guest room when friends and relations come to visit (and stay). Usually a converted gym, storage area or giant junk drawer with carpeting is converted into a bedroom of sorts and hopefully a few moments before guests are walking up the driveway to your home, luggage in hand. But if you have such a spot, it’s best to use it NOW because getting your guests away from the household action makes everything flow more smoothly and everyone a bit more comfortable. If you … Continue reading
