Satellite Radio Service: Sirius vs. XM

A few months ago my husband and I decided to join one of the latest fads in technology and subscribed to satellite radio service. The only two services that I know of in the United States are Sirius and XM. Our service of choice? Sirius. I don’t know why we chose Sirius over XM, but we did, and we are completely happy with the service. If you are considering any enhancements to your car’s stereo system, I highly recommend satellite radio service. I have done some research and found out that Sirius and XM are about the same when it … Continue reading

From Marky Mark to Mark Wahlberg: The Emergence of an Actor

I loved Marky Mark. I was a bit old when he started his act, but that did not stop me from being a fan. In fact, I still have the Marky Mark book he put out in the early Ninties. Of course, many made fun of him for dropping his shorts as he did, but it got him on a billboard in Times Square, so you tell me who the joke is on. When I first saw him in “Renaissance Man,” I was glad to see he had turned to acting. It seemed a natural progression, but he was not … Continue reading

Some Sobering Party Tips

Lady Astor once remarked that she didn’t drink at parties because she wanted to be sure when she was having a good time. This is worth remembering while attending a party, not to mention when called upon to drive home from one. Still, one should enjoy oneself because where we are going from here, I do not believe cocktails are served. The trend today seems towards simpler drinks like wine, beer and bottled waters. You alone know what you should drink, and if you should. The little policeman in your head is sometimes on a break, but he always comes … Continue reading

Size Doesn’t Matter

You know someone is different when you see him or her in a tiny role in a movie, yet you remember them from that role forever. For me, that is what happened with Peter Dinklage. I still remember the first time I saw him in Living in Oblivion (which was by the way, his first role). He was probably not on screen for more than three minutes, but he was so intense and yet funny in his role as Tito, he made it immediately memorable. Unfortunately, many people may remember Peter Dinklage for one distinguishing feature – he is a … Continue reading

My Emmy Night Memories

It’s hailed as “TV’s Biggest Night.” The 58th Primetime Emmy Awards air tonight on NBC and I can’t wait. While it sounds like I will sitting front and center on my couch anxiously awaiting the acceptance speeches of my favorite primetime stars, the reality is that with a toddler to feed, bathe and put to bed (and subsequently a kitchen and bathroom to clean) I will be lucky if I get to see the closing credits. But, it wasn’t always this way. When I was growing up Emmy night was a hallowed tradition. My friend from two doors down would … Continue reading

Fake Oscar Removed from the Auction Block

It is considered by most to be the most coveted award an entertainer can receive. Because of that, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences asks its winners to sign a contract stating the award will remain in their possession. If an entertainer dies and his or her heirs wish to sell the Oscar, they must first offer it to the Academy for $1.00. The Academy always buys the statue and locks it away in a vault. However, the Academy did not instigate this contract until 1951, making all Oscars received before 1951 eligible for sale. When these Oscars … Continue reading

The Righteous Deuce Bigalow

We all know what happened to Mel Gibson last week. He drank too much, got behind the wheel, went speeding down the highway, and when pulled over by the police, apparently decided to blame it on the Jews. Since then, there have been mixed feelings in Hollywood. Some have come out in support of Mel and many have remained silent. But there is one actor who has become the first to come out publicly and say he will never work with Mel because of his actions – Rob Schneider. Yeah, I know, I had to stop and take a second … Continue reading

Five Reasons to Love Brandon Routh – The New Superman

In case you have not heard, there is a new Superman in town. Over the years, several actors have played the beloved character. After starring in the television series “Adventure of Superman” in the Fifties, actor George Reeves found himself typecast as the Superman character, losing many acting jobs due to that fact. Christopher Reeve found fame playing Superman, starring as the Man of Steel in 1978’s blockbuster hit “Superman.” Handsome actor Dean Cain played Superman for four years on the small screen in “Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.” The first new Superman movie in almost 25 … Continue reading

Hottest Bachelors of 2006

I have been with my husband (both dating and married) for ten years now, but that does not mean that I do not look forward to People magazine’s annual Hottest Bachelor issue. In fact, if People every needs help interviewing potential bachelors, they can always call me! THE hot bachelor this year was American Idol winner Taylor Hicks. That is funny because Taylor is anything but the classic good-looking bachelor. I find him attractive, but when he first appeared on American Idol, all anyone could talk about was his graying hair. And, there was a big stir over whether Idol … Continue reading
