Learning from Reality Shows

If you have ever watched the television show “Wife Swap” you know that its based on taking two completely different types of families and swapping wives for two weeks. It can be pretty interesting to watch the collision of very different viewpoints. For the first week the visiting mom has to follow that family’s rules but then the second week she gets to change the rules. Many times the rules have to do with parenting issues but they also tend to be about the way the household is run. You get all kinds of families. You get families who believe … Continue reading

Kristy Lee’s Secret and a Deadliest Controversy?

After being a bottom vote getter for four of the last six weeks, Kristy Lee Cook was finally eliminated from “American Idol” last week, despite getting praise from the week’s mentor Mariah Carey. The country singer, who sold her horse to buy a ticket to the auditions, was sad to leave, but there is a little something keeping her upbeat. Kristy Lee could finally disclose to the press that her boyfriend Andy proposed to her in her Idol apartment on March 15. He proposed again last Wednesday night on the set of Idol, dropping to his knee this time. No … Continue reading

Maksim Takes a Break

I am sad to say that Maksim Chmerkovskiy will not be a regular dancer on the upcoming season of “Dancing with the Stars.” His reps told People magazine that the gorgeous dancer would be taking time off, that he “needs a break.” The 28-year-old hoofer had previously been partnered with Laila Ali (who just finished up her first season on “American Gladiators”) and Spice Girl Mel B. It was last December that Maksim told People that he was feeling burned out due to the show’s grueling schedule. He said, “After coming down from two seasons back-to-back, 10 weeks each season … Continue reading

The Biggest Loser – 138 pounds???

I wasn’t surprised this week when the Biggest Loser participants lost a lot of weight. Even though in normal circumstances, a weight loss as big as 7 pounds after week three would be considered a miracle, these folks are living and breathing their fitness plan. But still, I wasn’t prepared to see the Blue team members lose as much as they did. After all, two of them couldn’t train with Bob all week, and the other two had to eat out all week! To have them still lose an average of 13 pounds each was astounding. It showed their dedication, … Continue reading

The Beauty of Blogging

Some writers view blogs as amateurish writing, something that anyone with a keyboard can do. Many writers seem to think that “real” writing means only painstakingly researched copy, footnoted facts, or feats of literary genius. In fact, blogs are an important part of internet communication and they are excellent marketing tools. A blog is to the online community what a reality show is to television. The reason both are so popular is that people enjoy looking into other people’s lives and sharing common experiences. Instead of discounting stream of consciousness writing, realize that other types of writing are far less … Continue reading
