Big Brother Gaffe

If you are watching the reality show “Big Brother,” you probably saw that a contestant on the new Couples season made a comment the other day that has sent many in the community reeling. This season, the big twist to the show is that all the contestants supposedly came in not knowing each other. Based on questionnaires they filled out before the show, they were matched with a person who seemed to be their perfect mate. Adam, a contestant who claims that he works for an autism foundation, but the show’s web page says he is a public relations manager, … Continue reading

Survivor China: Say It Ain’t So Denise!

I don’t know how many of you watched the Survivor China finale the other night. There were four remaining Survivors – Denise (the lunch lady), Courtney (the waifish waitress), Todd (the schemer), and Amanda (the beauty queen). The field needed to be whittled down to the final three. Denise knew she was on the outside, but Amanda assured her she would not write her name on the ballot to eliminate her. I mean she said, “I will guarantee you I will not vote for you tonight.” Denise, one of the older competitors on the show, was a fan favorite. Well, … Continue reading

When Reality Gets Too Real

I will be the first to admit that I love reality television. I guess it stems from my love for documentaries. I mean after all, what is reality television if not just a glorified documentary? But what happens when reality television goes too far? We all know there have been several reality television couple break-ups – Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey, Carmen Electra and Dave Navarro, Travis Bakker and Shanna Moakler, Danny Bonaduce and his wife Gretchen, and most recently Hulk Hogan and his wife Linda. While divorced or divorcing, they are at least all still alive. News broke this … Continue reading

Newest Reality Show Has Celebs Toting Guns

I will be the first to admit that I love reality shows. I do not watch them all, but I am definitely a fan of many – perhaps too many for my own good. But when I read about CBS’ newest reality show “Armed and Famous,” I have to admit I was a bit scared. In this show, celebrities are sworn in to protect the law as reserve police officers of the town of Muncie, Indiana (population 66,000). This past Tuesday, about 200 townspeople showed up at the Muncie City Hall auditorium to see the stars sworn in. Whom can … Continue reading

How To Get the Guy (The Review)

I want to get that hour of my life back. However, that being said the best review I can give for the show that I watched last night was that it wasn’t awful. It was – however – confusing. The show is based around the idea of helping four single women in San Francisco find Mr. Right, limited as they are by how many of them are gay. The four women are introduced to the audience as Anne, the Girl Next Door, Michelle, the Career Girl, Alissa, the Dreamer and Kris, the party girl. These four women are going to … Continue reading

How to Get the Guy

So I was watching television the other morning and I saw an ad for a television show that made me do a double take. I may have mentioned here in the last few months that I am really not the demographic that reality television is trying to target. In fact, I really dislike reality television in general as exploitive, borderline abusive and just downright voyeuristic. That being said, I’m likely going to have to watch at least one episode of this new show just because it features wait for it: love coaches. That’s right – did you ever see the … Continue reading
