Special Shopping and Tours at the Animal Kingdom

Well, we’ve finally come to it. Today is the last in my series looking at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. As special events and other highlights happen at the park I’ll cover them, but today I’m finished my peek at what you can find on a normal basis at the Animal Kingdom. We’ll conclude with shopping and special tours. There’s not a lot of unique shopping at the Animal Kingdom. Most of the stores are of the typical shirts-and-stuffed-animals variety. However, there is the Mombasa Marketplace, in the Africa section of the Animal Kingdom, near the Tusker House. It’s divided into two … Continue reading

Broadway Bound Part 2

For the past few days I have been researching current Broadway shows in preparation for what could be my first visit to New York in more than four years. I am thrilled at the prospect of heading back to the Big Apple and especially overjoyed that I could soon be sitting in one of the city’s famous theaters taking in a Tony Award-winning musical. Now, if I could only come up with the money I would be in business. When Mel Brooks’ Young Frankenstein opened on Broadway last year, the top price of a ticket reached $450 for the first … Continue reading

Traveling to New York? Think Broadway

If you thought the movie was incredible wait until you see Shrek the Musical. The popular DreamWorks Animation SKG film is headed to Broadway and despite the fact that no actor has signed on to play the title character (yet) tickets are all ready in demand. DreamWorks Theatricals just announced that the show will open on December 14th at the Broadway Theatre, with preview performances beginning November 8th. As I mentioned earlier there’s no word on who will be playing Shrek or his pal Donkey, but stage star Sutton Foster (she’s currently starring as Inga in Young Frankenstein) has signed … Continue reading

Museums and Pets

Do you ever have days or weeks that revolve around a theme? Like you’ll see mention of a certain something in more than one place? This happens to me a lot. I remember the first time I really took notice of the phenomenon. I was a sophomore in high school and we had just started studying Shakespeare. Suddenly everywhere I turned I’d bump into references to his plays. Or when my old car, a 1992 Honda Civic, started having problems that required frequent maintenance, I knew the time was about to come for a new car. I really had my … Continue reading

Are you a Major League Baseball fan? Even if you’re not, you’ll love this tour. Safeco Field offers a variety of tours. For just $7 ($5 for children), you can take a 60-90 minute tour “behind the scenes.” We’ve done this a few times and always learn something new every time we go. For the general tour, we learned all about the history of the Mariners, and saw the ins and outs of running things at such a huge venue. We were a small group, made up of six in our family, a couple of Japanese exchange students we had … Continue reading

Interview with Author, Julie Wright

Deseret Book author, Julie Wright, is an intriguing individual. With a fulfilled lifelong dream of owning a grocery store, she and her husband live in a small Utah town. From her website: “To give a little background on me, I was raised in Salt Lake City and attended Brighton High School where I met the love of my life. After a few detours at BYU and “dear-Johning” him while he was on his mission to Sweden, he came home and we got married.
