EBay Slashes Fees!

Even EBay is feeling the heat. With consumer spending down and many young new e-commerce companies successfully gaining ground, the auction giant is slashing its listing fees in order to boost listings and remain competitive. EBay announced today that listing fees will be cut up to 50 percent. The company hopes the reduced fees will encourage more people to use the service to sell their goods. Lately, EBay has been suffering from stagnant growth and fewer listed items. But hold on, before you comb through the attic for Great Aunt Talula’s doll collection or Grandpa’s commemorative baseball cap, know that … Continue reading

Tips for Moving Day

Well, it is finally approaching! It’s going to be moving day. If you are planning a move, you have got to be both excited and overwhelmed. We made a move last year, and I thought I would never get done with everything. And of course, there are things that I wish we would have done differently. With my mistakes in mind (and also the things that did work well), here are some tips for moving day. Designate one person to stay at home with the movers. If you are closing on a new house the same day and need to … Continue reading

Finding Extra Cash In New Ways

Is there any better feeling than cleaning out a coat pocket or fishing through a jean pocket, and pulling out a five, ten or twenty dollar bill, that you forgot was there. It’s like “found” cash. I have a rule on laundry day. If I open the washing machine, dryer or empty out a pocket with money in it, its mine. The last time I turned in the change and dollars I had found in the laundry, which I keep in a small bucket on my laundry shelf, I had accumulated $65.00 in about four months time. That is just … Continue reading

Have You Thought About Selling Your Business?

So, maybe you think of your home business like a member of the family—you might even be so enmeshed with the business that you underestimate its worth or do not understand that it even HAS a value as separate business entity. But, many individuals build up businesses and then sell them—letting them go to a new owner for a profit and moving on to some other business challenge or project (or another job, retirement, etc.). Just about any business with a product or service, clients or customers and an established business entity can be sold. It will depend on your … Continue reading

What Not To Sell at a Garage Sale Part Two

“One man’s trash, is another man’s treasure”, does not always hold true, when preparing for a garage sale. It is important to keep in mind, safety and damage and what it can mean for others. Here are several more items that need to meet safety standards to be sold. Walkers Enough said. Just don’t sell them. They are against the law. Period. If they have wheels, they are a huge safety risk and should be destroyed. Children have wheeled themselves right down stairs, amongst other things. If it is a stationary “walker” like an excersaucer, sell away! Those are great … Continue reading

What Not To Sell at a Garage Sale Part One

While the old saying “One man’s trash, is another man’s treasure”, is certainly true for a garage sale, there are some items that should not be sold at garage sales. Mostly these items can cause safety hazards and have to meet safety requirements under the Hazardous Products Act. Please be sure and read this before having your next garage sale. It would be awful if someone got injured by something you sold that was unsafe. Not everyone knows of these laws and many people are uneducated, so it is important for you to educate yourself to protect those that don’t … Continue reading

Selling Clothes Online

A lot of entrepreneurs get their start on eBay, and often through selling clothing. Everyone has clothes, and parents so often find themselves with outgrown clothing that they have little use for. But, clothing is by far the largest category on the site, and the competition is fierce. With the recent raise in fees, it is often not profitable to sell used clothing on eBay at all, but there are a few exceptions. One of the exceptions I have found is for very high end clothing. These are the brands that people will be actively searching for. If you have … Continue reading

The Star of Christmas (2002)

Bob the Tomato stars as Cavis Appythart and Larry the Cucumber as Millward Phelps in this Christmas movie by the creators of VeggieTales. Cavis and Millward are hopeful British composers, somewhat after the style of Gilbert and Sullivan, who are trying to make it big with their production, “The Princess and the Plumber.” They’ve asked Miss Effie Pickering (Madame Blueberry) to head up their cast, and now they need a big show stopper, a main attraction. If they don’t get a good crowd, their entire dream will go up in smoke and they won’t be able to pay for all … Continue reading

What To Know Before Making A Living Off Of eBay

What is your idea of the perfect job? For some it’s buying, selling and bargaining. And, what better place to do so than in the comfort of your own home, on your own computer, using what some consider the ultimate online auction site–eBay? For thousands of Americans, eBay isn’t just a hobby… it’s a living. Just ask my neighbor. He spends his day packing, stamping and filling out customs forms in the basement of his home. He has made eBay a full-time job. The hours are flexible, it’s convenient and he loves it. He started off making less than $100 … Continue reading

Make Money Printing Certificates

What kind of certificates? Just a printed piece of paper that says Congratulations or Most Valuable Player can help you earn extra money at home. When my oldest son began playing soccer, I thought of making my son a certificate. Certificate borders are available online for free or special certificate software can also be purchased. I went out to the local computer supply store and purchased a package of certificates. They weren’t too fancy, just a blue border and sold for less than $7 for a box of 50 sheets. The sheets can also be found with a nice border … Continue reading
