Return to Snowy River (1988)

In the 1988 sequel to “The Man from Snowy River,” we find that Jim Craig has been gone a long time. Feeling that he had to prove himself and come up with a means of making money so he could support Jessica, he didn’t come back until he had collected a herd of good horses. He has that herd now, and he’s brought them back to his cabin at Snowy River. But he has to go and find out if Jessica still wants him. When he arrives at the Harrison’s ranch, he finds a riding exhibition and horse race taking … Continue reading

The Jungle Book 2 (2003)

At the end of “The Jungle Book,” we saw Mowgli lured into the Man Village by a beautiful girl with large brown eyes. As we begin “The Jungle Book 2,” we find that her name was Shanti, and she and her family have taken Mowgli in and given him a home. Shanti’s parents have done everything they can to make him feel more comfortable and welcome, and her little brother Ranjan practically worships him, but despite all this, Mowgli still misses his jungle life. It doesn’t make it any easier that he’s forbidden to cross the river – his new … Continue reading

The Lion King 1 ½ (2004)

“The Lion King 1 ½” is my favorite out of the three “Lion King” movies, mostly because of the sheer comedic genius of Nathan Lane, who voices Timon the meerkat. He’s hysterical, and he makes the movie. In this film, we get to see what was happening even before Simba was born. Timon was an outcast in his meerkat town. He couldn’t do anything he was asked to do – he was flighty and irresponsible. He caused many a cave-in of the meerkat tunnels, and other disasters too numerous to mention. His mother feared he’d never make a decent meerkat, … Continue reading

Little Men – Louisa May Alcott

As we know, Louisa May Alcott’s debut novel “Little Women” was inspired largely by her own life, with the exception of the love interests in the book, which were fictionalized. In “Little Men,” the sequel to “Little Women,” we find a heart-warming and fascinating story, but we must realize that this book is completely fictional. Jo has inherited Plumfield from her Aunt March. It’s a huge, sprawling place with lots of property, and it’s perfect for a school. Jo decides to open a boys’ school, and with the help of her husband, Professor Bhaer, sets up a beautiful facility. The … Continue reading

Toy Story 2 (1999)

In “Toy Story,” we met Buzz Lightyear, a toy who didn’t know he was a toy. In the sequel, “Toy Story 2,” it’s Woody’s turn to have an identity crisis. While saving a toy from a yard sale box, Woody (Tom Hanks) accidentally falls into a “for sale” pile and is eagerly snatched up by Al, owner of Al’s Toy Barn. Al is a collector who has spent years looking for a Woody doll, and he makes an offer to Andy’s mother. She explains the toy is not for sale, but Al tucks Woody under a pile in his arms … Continue reading

The Return Of Indiana Jones

Fans of Indiana Jones’ movies (“Raiders of the Lost Ark,” “Temple of Doom” and “The Last Crusade”) have reason to celebrate today. Actor Harrison Ford (who played Indiana Jones in all three movies) has announced that he feels “fit to continue” to play the adventurous character in a fourth film. The 64-year-old actor made the announcement at the inaugural Rome Film Festival; despite he says his “advancement in years.” Ford told reporters he was delighted to team up again with directors Steven Spielberg and George Lucas for the film. (Lucas co-wrote and executive produced the earlier films, which Spielberg directed.) … Continue reading
