Clay’s Gay

Call it the anti-news flash. The former “American Idol” runner-up is coming out of the closet appearing on the cover of the latest issue of People magazine holding his newborn son with the headline: “Yes, I’m Gay.” Yes, we know. Is Aiken’s revelation really front-page news? Seriously, was there any indication that the multiplatinum recording artist and Broadway star wasn’t gay? Is it really as big a “secret” as People makes it out to be? And who really cares anyway? The new issue doesn’t hit newsstands until Friday, but People posted a “sneak peek” of their interview with Aiken on … Continue reading

Be Prepared

I have decided to adopt the Boy Scouts motto of “be prepared” as my parenting motto. When you have kids, especially young one, there’s no telling what curve ball they might throw your way. Mine went something like this: early Saturday morning Tyler came up to me and asked me if it hurt when they cut me. Well, I figured he was talking about my C-section since I had explained the circumstances of his birth already. “No, no not that. Did it hurt when they cut your penis off?” Let me just say that I had not had any coffee … Continue reading

Book Review: From Diapers To Dating: A Parent’s Guide To Raising Sexually Healthy Children

Book Review: From Diapers To Dating: A Parent’s Guide To Raising Sexually Healthy Children, by Debra W. Haffner If you’re having problems talking to your kids about sex, I recommend this book. I admit, I checked it out of the library by mistake. I didn’t notice that it was about sex until I got home (the second part of the title is written in smaller letters under the main title). I thought it was a general parenting advice book. Since I had it anyway, I decided to read it. After all, at some point I will have to talk to … Continue reading

Keeping Your Marriage Sensual

Many people confuse sexuality with sensuality. Strictly speaking, sexuality is about sex, and sensuality is about the senses. Stimulating the senses may lead to sex at times, but it also leads to a closer relationship with your spouse. Warm touches, even when sex is not the goal, help your spouse feel loved and wanted and close to you. Hugging It may seem obvious that hugging is an important part of marriage. Unfortunately, many couples seem to drift away from frequent hugs after they have been together for a while. In other cases, hugs are only a part of the sexual … Continue reading

The Things You Thought You Knew – Online Relationships

Have you ever seen the movie How to Lose A Guy in 10 Days? If you haven’t, I recommend checking it out. First of all, it’s funny and secondly, there’s a message hidden away in there for those that pay attention. Online dating is a lot like this movie. Boy and girl meet in a bar and pick each other up. They both possess their own agendas and what they see in each other is the perfect opportunity to explore the possibilities. After a fun evening together, they retire back to his place for a little while. They tease each … Continue reading

Movie Viewing — And Talking With Your Kids About It

I read Janet McMonagle’s post “Brokeback Media”, which I thought was very interesting. The headmaster of the Christian school where Michelle Willams once attended was asked if his school was acknowledging Williams’s Oscar nomination for Brokeback Mountain, and his comments about the film promoting a lifestyle that the school opposes have caused some controversy. I won’t repeat Janet’s post. What interests me is the fact that the headmaster’s comments have probably spurred more interest among the students in seeing the film than had these comments not been made. That’s part of human nature I suppose. You tell a teenager not … Continue reading
