Conditioner Makes the Difference

I have unruly hair. It’s thick and curly and I really do like it… but it can be difficult to handle. Dealing with my hair isn’t really that bad… as long as I use conditioner on a regular basis. I have two different types I like: one is your usual in-the-shower conditioner and the other is a leave-in conditioner. The leave-in is nice because it’s like wearing “product” (gel or mousse or something) without actually using gunk in my hair. I was in a rush yesterday while getting ready for work. So, while I’d intented to use my leave-in conditioner … Continue reading

Our Experience With Cradle Cap

My daughter was born chubby, bald, and beautiful. It doesn’t look like she’ll have a full head of hair anytime soon. Consequently, I didn’t see any reason we’d need to use one of those cute baby brushes on her for quite awhile, although we received a few as gifts. As I was lying next to her one lazy afternoon, I thought about how I love having my hair brushed. It always relaxes me and feels so good. I decided brushing my daughter’s hair with a soft brush might feel good to her too. I got one out, and started softly … Continue reading

How to Make Your Own Dry Shampoo

Interested in trying a dry shampoo? You don’t have to shell out big bucks if you’ve got a well-stocked kitchen and medicine cabinet. I bet you’ve already got everything you need on hand. The quickest, simplest dry shampoo recipe I found? Take a little corn starch — yes, the stuff used in cooking to thicken sauces — and work it into your hair. Start at the roots and scalp, where hair tends to be the oiliest. Scrub it around as if you were using shampoo in the shower, then brush or comb it out. The corn starch will soak up … Continue reading

What is Dry Shampoo?

There’s a lot of ideas out there about the best way to care for your hair. Wash every day. Don’t wash every day. Air dry. Blow dry. My thoughts? What’s best for you and your hair might not work for another person. I like to wash my hair every day, but that’s as much for the shower-wakes-me-up sensation as the my-hair-gets-greasy-fast problem. And my method is in no way the last word in hair care! Lately I’ve been in on a bunch of conversations about dry shampoo, so I thought I’d share the info! First things first: what is dry … Continue reading

Pump up the Savings

One of the clear ways to save money is to use less. We all know that, right? It might surprise you to know that there are certain common things that people usually use too much of, or at least more than they need to use. That extra doesn’t add any benefit, but it does use up our resources sooner, forcing us to buy more and spend money. We are so blessed in our lives. We have the ability to go out and get practically anything we need, from food to health and beauty supplies. What would our ancestors from other … Continue reading

Current Freebies

Remember that when companies offer freebies, it’s to gain new customers. Please only take advantage of those items that you conceivably might actually buy in the future. Read The Ethics of Free Stuff for clarification. Okay, that’s covered! Get ready to actually get something in the mail besides bills! Here is my list of current freebies. Iams Promise Pet Food – With three dogs and a cat, we go through a significant chunk of change every month in pet food. We usually go with the higher end stuff because the couple of dollars more we pay for the bag of … Continue reading

DuPont Carpet Care for Cars – Free after Rebate

We bought our first mini-van straight from the factory (we’re wiser now, and more frugal!). It was actually a thing of beauty, with large doors that opened on both sides and built-in car seats. Since I had four children under seven, that was a huge selling point! We paid extra for the stainproof carpet, the protectant on the upholstery, and even bought a specialized warranty that would cover cleaning. I think it went about 90 days without a spill. I actually breathed a sigh of relief when Paul spilled a cup of hot coffee on his lap, which then proceeded … Continue reading

I’m a Hair Hazard! (Pantene Samples)

I’m a Hair Hazard. At least, that’s what the quiz on the Pantene Restoratives website tells me. Yep, I’m dangerous – and not in the mysterious, exciting way. There’s an ugly photo of a 50% stripped hair cuticle next to a photo of healthy hair. Guess which one is closer to mine? I used to have gorgeous, thick, flowing hair. People used to touch it all the time, comment on it, and compliment me on it. Then came children. The grey really isn’t the worst part. After all, those are strands of wisdom. Plus they can be covered with hair … Continue reading

Clean That Bathroom for Free!

Today I’m going to tell you about a free way to clean your bathroom and get rid of some clutter. Open up your linen closet, the under the bathroom sink cabinet or wherever you store your lotions and potions. Take a good look around. Chances are you have a valuable bathroom cleaning source right there, for free. You see, I have been on a mission to keep my bath-and-a-half absolutely spotless. This is far from easy with a husband and three kids, but the effort is worth it, I think. I have found that spending a few minutes every day … Continue reading

Stockpiled Shampoo? Here’s What To Do With It!

As many members on our site will attest to, especially those quite familiar with the DEALS area, stockpiling is a great way to get things for free and have them whenever you need them. One of the most common items I see stockpiled is toiletries, in particular, shampoo. What does it mean to stockpile? First of all, when you use it over in the deals section, it can be used as a noun or a verb. The noun definition, is simply something kept back or saved for future use or a special purpose [syn: reserve, backlog] or a storage pile … Continue reading
