Health Insurance and the Single Parent

I can just hear the groans now as I use those two words: Health Insurance. What issue is more controversial, more stressful, and more overwhelming for ANY family, if not health insurance? For single parents, getting adequate health insurance coverage for our kids and our families can be an incredible challenge and one of our big focuses as we look for adequate work and benefit packages… Years ago, when I was negotiating my divorce settlement, I remember health insurance was a big topic. My ex-husband and I spent some time and detail figuring out what was going to be fair … Continue reading

Quick Fixes For Snoring

If you share a bed with a spouse who snores, you are losing precious sleep! In fact, by your fiftieth wedding anniversary, you’ve lost around four years worth of sleep. Amazing! That breaks down to about one year of sleep lost for every twelve years you share a bed with a snorer. When you aren’t getting enough risk, you’re at risk for all kinds of things. Lack of sleep contributes to mood problems and memory problems. If you aren’t resting enough, you may be less alert during the day — that makes you more likely to be involved in car … Continue reading

Can You Handle a Financial Crisis?

Are you prepared for the worst case financial scenarios in your life? Do you have adequate life insurance? Do you have money set aside in case you lose your job? Do you currently have health insurance? Would you be able to care for your family if one spouse had to stop working or passed away? Although these are difficult questions to think about, it is important to address them. Although you may think that you are better off saving the money rather than purchasing life or health insurance, it is a risky gamble. One skiing accident or attack of appendicitis … Continue reading

A Cure For Snoring Or… The Perfect Father’s Day Gift

After weeks of searching, researching, and wracking my brain I think I may have found it… the perfect Father’s Day gift for my beloved dad. It won’t hang from his neck or help him catch fish, but it may help him catch more zzz’s. It’s called the Sonapillow and it’s supposed to help bring relief to people who snore. Yes, my dad is a snorer. At best snoring is annoying. At worst it can be a potentially serious health problem. I think my dad’s snoring falls somewhere in the middle. But he is not alone. Millions of Americans suffer from … Continue reading

In the News: Did Michigan Overreach on Marriage v. Unions?

It seems that most people who don’t agree with gay “marriage” don’t really have a problem with domestic partnerships or benefits related to such unions, at least in a general sense. Such partnerships for most are meant to cover relationships from same sex unions to long-term roommates, cohabitating heterosexual couples, and even relatives who share their lives together and seek benefits. Perhaps the Michigan legislation went too far in attempting to use strong language that left no wiggle room. It is understandable that those who defend marriage would want to construct laws or amendments in a way that cannot be … Continue reading

Geico Insurance “Cavemen” To Become ABC Sitcom

Entertainment reporters and Hollywood watchers seem to have mixed reviews about ABC TV Studio’s decision to create a television comedy sitcom featuring Geico advertising characters. The Caveman series will be based on the personalities created for the recent campaign pressing the fact that Geico Insurance is so simple to sign up for that, “Even a Caveman can do it.” It won’t be the first time a commercial character has grown into a television series idea. Some critics think “Caveman” will turn out the same as all the past. Many of the past TV shows that have been produced based on … Continue reading

Top Ten Male Stereotypes

What is a stereotype? It is generally an idea or a perception about a specific demographic that may have some truth to it but is not likely to be true of all persons in that demographic. Still, we all tend to hold common stereotypes of certain people in mind. What are some common stereotypes when it comes to men? Here are ten, in no particular order: 1. Men have a difficult time relinquishing the remote control. 2. Speaking of remote controls, many men would have one for everything if it were possible. 3. Men will watch a show they’ve already … Continue reading

Insurance Blog Week In Review February 6-12, 2007

This week in the Insurance Blogs I have focused a bit on the Business of Insurance, including some of the Career paths insurance has to offer. Next week I will be expanding on some of interesting things a person might do with an Insurance License. I have also started a series of Blogs about shopping and quoting my own personal insurance portfolio. A project I have put off for far too long. Yesterday, we were given notice that my husbands employer is phasing out the retirement pension they offer. So, now we need to add retirement options to our personal … Continue reading

A Home Business Means Longer Hours

The one thing that people always say, without exception, when I tell them that I work at home is “oh, I wish I could do that.” No, most people probably don’t. Working at home is tough, without a doubt. The main problem with the home business dream is that it takes considerably more hours than most outside jobs. Within a few months of starting a home business I was making more than at my former job, but the hours were nearly doubled. Different home businesses require a different number of hours per week, but I have yet to hear of … Continue reading
