Watch the World Cup the Disney Way

I only care about any sports once every four years. Even then I don’t follow either of the Olympics, but the World Cup. For those who don’t know, the World Cup is the primary international championship for soccer. During this year’s Winter Olympics I found a Disney-related story about them to share. Because I care much more about the World Cup, I really wanted to find something similar to talk about in relation to Disney and the World Cup. I did manage to turn up a couple topics. If you’re in the Orlando area and would like to watch a … Continue reading

The Legal Woes of Courtney Love and Maradona

I was reading today about how Courtney Love has been sued because of her online rants. Oh no, I thought to myself! Maybe I should be more careful when blogging because I know at times I can be harsh. But, then I read exactly what Courtney had been saying and I think I am doing okay. Love is being sued by fashion designer Dawn Simorangkir, aka the Boudoir Queen. Simorangkir is seeking damages for libel, invasion of privacy, intentional interference with her business, infliction of emotional distress and breach of contract. Simorangkir also says that Love has never paid her … Continue reading

Gracie (2007)

When I first picked up “Gracie,” I thought I was in for a feel-good family film about a girl who wanted to play soccer. What I ended up with was a deeply-involved drama about a family torn apart who struggled to pull things back together. I have to say, though, I wasn’t disappointed in the film, even though my expectations were so far off base. “Gracie” is loosely based on the lives of actors Andrew and Elisabeth Shue, who also have roles within the film. Gracie Bowen (Carly Schroeder) is the only daughter in a family of athletic boys, and … Continue reading

Tips for Shooting Soccer Games

I recently received a note from a reader asking me for tips on how to capture “decent” pictures of her son during his soccer games. Why settle for “decent?” You can capture truly frameworthy sports photos if you practice a few simple techniques. Position. I dated a soccer player in high school and actually have experience shooting many action packed games. My first recommendation is to get off the bleachers and situate yourself near the goal at the end of the field. That way you can shoot up the field, rather than from the sidelines. What’s more, the end of … Continue reading

Beckham Suffers Knee Injury – Out Six Weeks

As luck would have it, even the rich and famous are susceptible to something that plagues many of us – injuries. Soccer superstar David Beckham, 31, suffered ligament damage while playing a match in Spain with his soon to be old team, Real Madrid last Sunday. The injury came as he was trying to get the ball and crashed into an advertising sign (ouch). He tried to continue playing (soccer games only allow two subs per game), but he finally left the game in the 63rd minute. Beckham has been ordered by doctors to remain on the sidelines for the … Continue reading

Once in a Lifetime

I was scanning an Entertainment Weekly when I saw something that caught my attention. There is a documentary coming out on July 7, 2006 called “Once in a Lifetime.” It is the story of Steve Ross and his decision to purchase the New York Cosmos soccer team in the 1970s. Not only did Ross purchase the Cosmos, he set out to build a team the likes that had never been seen before or since. It is not unusual for you to see a couple of kids kicking a soccer ball today, but in the 1970s, it was almost unheard of. … Continue reading
