Kid-Friendly Vacation Destinations with Meaning

I just received an email from my friend who wanted to brag about (I mean share the good news) that her family’s spring break vacation plans to California are now complete. They don’t depart on their trip for another two months, but she’s delighted nonetheless. I don’t blame her. Planning a cross-country trip for a family of five is no easy task. Her three children will have a blast and I’m sure she and her husband will too. My pal’s email inspired me to write this blog about family vacations. Beyond the thrill of visiting a new city, having fun … Continue reading

Spring Break- Not Just for the Kids

Spring Break is here and the kids are home from school this week. It’s a bittersweet time for me. Sure, I’m excited about not having to wake up at 6:30 (I’m not a morning person!) but the problem remains what to do with Tyler doing this time. Working from home has definite advantages. During breaks and early dismissals, I don’t have to worry about missing work or finding other alternatives for Tyler. It also means that I have to try to work with him hanging around my neck (sometimes literally). Although he can certainly amuse himself and understands that this … Continue reading

Spring Break Travel Tips

My college co-ed cousins go on spring break next week. (They will be sunning it up in a tropical location while I sit here shedding tears on my fading tan.) Typically, college students make up round one of the revolving door of spring breakers who collectively crowd the nation’s highways, beaches, and skies this time of year. If you plan to spend the spring recess journeying to sunny (or snowy) destinations on a much-needed family vacation, consider keeping some of my favorite tips in mind: Do Your Homework. Does anyone dare enter the Magic Kingdom without a plan? Don’t answer … Continue reading

More Family-Friendly Spring Break Destinations

The tan from my Hawaiian winter holiday is still fresh so why am I blogging about spring break vacation destinations? Because I want to remain a shade darker than dirty snow? (Okay, that may be part of the reason.) Actually, the real reason we are researching family-friendly spring break destinations is because we had such a wonderful time with our latest multi-generational vacation we can’t wait to do it all over again in a new location. The following are more destinations that are on our list: Yellowstone National Park Before you roll your eyes and mutter: “cliché,” consider this: The … Continue reading

Family-Friendly Spring Break Destinations

Sure, we just returned from a wonderful Hawaiian holiday, but as you know from my previous blog, that hasn’t stopped us from diving head first into new travel material in search of the ultimate family-friendly spring break destination. Here are a few more spots we are considering: Washington, D.C. Springtime in the nation’s capital–mild temperatures, cherry trees, and loads of hands on learning opportunities for kids (and parents)–what could be better, right? Okay, there’s no guarantee that the weather will be picture-perfect, but it’s hard to resist the chance to take in the sight of more than 3,750 cherry trees … Continue reading

Where Are You Spending Your Spring Break?

I know, I know, some children are just returning to school after enjoying a few weeks off for winter recess so it may seem as though I am jumping the gun a bit on spring break vacation destinations. However, I was lucky enough to spend the holidays in Hawaii with my family (a trip that was a year in the making), so needless to say I believe it’s never too early to begin planning for your next family vacation. The following are some locations I have been researching during my hunt for the ideal spring break destination. Where will we … Continue reading

Thoughts On Spring Break – Homeschooling and Having Fun!

Spring is in the air! Flowers are blooming, the trees have leaves, and the grass is turning green once again. Finally, there is no need for a jacket to be outside; only a pair of spring sandals. Yes, I do love this time of year. Along with this most wonderful time of year comes the all important and much anticipated spring break. Your children (and you) have anxiously been awaiting this and the last thing that you want to think about is school work, right? Well, don’t be too anxious to rule it out. This may be the perfect opportunity … Continue reading

Forget the Cleaning – Go and Play

Today was a beautiful spring day, albeit a little windy, but beautiful nonetheless. My kids are out of school on spring break so I decided to take advantage of the fact and have some fun. Even though Monday is typically cleaning day for me I decided to forget my dirty laundry and dishes. I ignored the fact that the bathrooms needed to be cleaned and that the kitchen floor crunches when you walk on it and we went to the park. I stood and watched, the wind blowing my hair. My kids shouted, “Hey mom, watch me!” as they slid … Continue reading

Spring Break in Cancun – What Are Your Teens Really Doing?

Recently my husband and I returned from a vacation to the Cancun Mexico area. We stayed at a resort on the Riviera Maya and since we didn’t frequent the bars were not exposed to the multitude of college and high-school students visiting during spring break. That is until we were on our way home. At the airport we heard four teenage girls talking about their spring break vacation. We overheard the following conversation, “You promise you won’t say anything?” Her friend responded, “Of course, after all what happens in Cancun, stays in Cancun.” Later another girl said, “I drank so … Continue reading
