Republican presidential campaign, vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin shocked some supporters yesterday by announcing that her 17-year-old daughter Bristol is five months pregnant. According to insiders, Palin, the 44-year-old Alaskan governor and mom of five children released her statement to the media yesterday to combat an Internet rumor that Bristol may have mothered Palin’s youngest son, Trig, who was born 4 months ago with Down Syndrome. The Church’s Program on Adoption

The wards and stakes of the Church have been asked to hold a program once every other year to talk to ward members about teen pregnancy and adoption. It’s estimated that every ward in the Church will have one teen pregnancy per year. While I’m not sure how that matches up with statistics from other organizations, I have to say I was pretty surprised to hear such a high number. Now that one of their biggest stars is expecting a baby the all-kids network is considering airing a special for its young viewers about sex and love. Executives at Nickelodeon say they are currently in talks with Linda Ellerbee, the former TV journalist who has hosted a number of kid-friendly shows in the past which dealt with controversial subjects ranging from same-sex parents and AIDS, to the Columbine shootings and President Clinton’s impeachment scandal. Yes, it is true, there is another Spears baby on the way, but it is not quite who you expect. OK! Magazine is reporting that Britney’s little sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, is pregnant. Middle School Gives out Free Birth Control

Paul Harvey shocked me a little today when he announced that a Portland middle school had decided to offer free birth control pills and patches to its students. These students range from ages 11 to 13. After his announcement, I had to search the web and find out more. This is what I found. Teen Mother Kills Baby

It always saddens me when I hear about a mother killing her child. It saddens me more when the child is a newborn. Last week here in Mobile an 18-year-old mother claimed that her 1-month-old daughter had been kidnapped by two woman who said they were from an adoption agency. The mother, who also has a 14-month-old daughter, said that after giving birth to the second child she realized she would not be able to take care of both kids so she decided to put the new baby up for adoption. New Report Shows Fewer Teens Having Sex

There’s good news for parents of teens. According to a recently released study, fewer teens are having sex, the number of teens ages 15 to 17 giving birth has decreased and for those teens who are engaging in sexual activity, the use of condoms is up. America’s Children: Key National Indicators of Well-Being, is an annual report released by the Federal Interagency Forum on Child and Family Statistics and details information on the health and well-being of children in the United States.
