Sarah Palin: Supermom or In Way Over Her Head?

Republican presidential campaign, vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin shocked some supporters yesterday by announcing that her 17-year-old daughter Bristol is five months pregnant. According to insiders, Palin, the 44-year-old Alaskan governor and mom of five children released her statement to the media yesterday to combat an Internet rumor that Bristol may have mothered Palin’s youngest son, Trig, who was born 4 months ago with Down Syndrome. Apparently, this particular rumor has been circulating for a while, though ever since John McCain selected Palin to be his vice president late last week, the buzz on Bristol has reached epic proportions. Personally, … Continue reading

The Church’s Program on Adoption

The wards and stakes of the Church have been asked to hold a program once every other year to talk to ward members about teen pregnancy and adoption. It’s estimated that every ward in the Church will have one teen pregnancy per year. While I’m not sure how that matches up with statistics from other organizations, I have to say I was pretty surprised to hear such a high number. A representative from our stake came and spoke to us this last Sunday, and I was overwhelmed with the message she brought. She spoke no words of condemnation, was not … Continue reading

Pregnancy Pact is Preposterous

My fellow blogger Lyn just posted a piece in the Education Blog about teenage girls at one high school making a “pregnancy pact”. When I started to read this blog I had a faint hope that she was talking about the kind of “virginity pledge”, “chastity rings” or “True Love Waits” Campaign vows. But deep inside I suspected she wasn’t. That suspicion was right. This blog is about high school girls making a pledge to get pregnant and have their babies together. The girls seemed thrilled when they got pregnant, which nearly twenty of them have done. I guess we … Continue reading

Nickelodeon’s New Special: Teen Pregnancy 101

Now that one of their biggest stars is expecting a baby the all-kids network is considering airing a special for its young viewers about sex and love. Executives at Nickelodeon say they are currently in talks with Linda Ellerbee, the former TV journalist who has hosted a number of kid-friendly shows in the past which dealt with controversial subjects ranging from same-sex parents and AIDS, to the Columbine shootings and President Clinton’s impeachment scandal. Following the news that Nickelodeon’s 16-year-old “Zoey 101” star Jamie Lynn Spears is pregnant, Ellerbee told network bigwigs she felt a show addressing teens and sexuality … Continue reading

Is Jamie Lynn Spears Marrying Her Baby’s Daddy?

Don’t look for the 16-year-old to follow in her big sis’s footsteps by running off to Las Vegas and getting hitched before Christmas. But, it’s not because she and her boyfriend, Casey Aldridge don’t want to. According to TV’s “Access Hollywood,” the reason wedding bells won’t be ringing (just yet) for the “Zoey 101” star is because now that Jamie Lynn has gone public with her pregnancy her parents aren’t letting her out of their sight so she can’t “do anything she’ll regret.” The quote comes from a friend of the Spears family who tells the TV show that Jamie … Continue reading

Reaction to Jamie Lynn Spears’s Pregnancy—Big Sis in Denial and Mom’s New Book on Hold

Earth to Britney Spears—Your baby sis is pregnant. The first published reports confirming 16-year-old Jamie Lynn Spears’s pregnancy came a little after 7 p.m. Eastern time. At 9 p.m. Pacific Time a horde of paparazzi caught up with Jamie Lynn’s big sis Britney outside an upscale California boutique and quizzed her about becoming an aunt. Brit’s response: “My sister’s not pregnant.” Some speculated that Brit was merely trying to protect her little sis, but according to TMZ.com, it’s more likely that the trainwreck is in denial since she was kept out of the loop and only found out about Jamie … Continue reading

Another Spears Baby

Yes, it is true, there is another Spears baby on the way, but it is not quite who you expect. OK! Magazine is reporting that Britney’s little sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, is pregnant. The 16-year-old star of “Zoey 101” told the magazine that she was pregnant. Jaime Lynn said that father was her longtime boyfriend, Casey Aldridge. Okay, let me stop right here and say, I know it has been a long time since I’ve been 16, but what does she mean by longtime? I think when I was 16, I was told my parents I could date…when I was … Continue reading

Middle School Gives out Free Birth Control

Paul Harvey shocked me a little today when he announced that a Portland middle school had decided to offer free birth control pills and patches to its students. These students range from ages 11 to 13. After his announcement, I had to search the web and find out more. This is what I found. King Middle School in Portland, Maine will be offering birth control pills and patches to the students. The school has given out condoms to the students since 2002. The students must get permission from their parents to be seen at the treatment center. However, the visit … Continue reading

Teen Mother Kills Baby

It always saddens me when I hear about a mother killing her child. It saddens me more when the child is a newborn. Last week here in Mobile an 18-year-old mother claimed that her 1-month-old daughter had been kidnapped by two woman who said they were from an adoption agency. The mother, who also has a 14-month-old daughter, said that after giving birth to the second child she realized she would not be able to take care of both kids so she decided to put the new baby up for adoption. She claimed she called an agency from a list … Continue reading
