Beth Chaverim: A True House of Friends

For those of you who have read my other articles in Jewish Families, you should understand how much writing this one means. For those of you who have not, please see “Living with Stereotypes: I’m Not Truly Jewish?” and “Living with Stereotypes: All Jews Have Money.” This blog will mean a lot more to you after you read those. When I was in high school, my family became members of a synagogue — Beth Chaverim. Since many people are not familiar with the Hebrew language, even those who are Jewish, Beth Chaverim means “house of friends.” I went into the … Continue reading

Make Time to Attend the Temple

I live outside of Utah, and recently temple attendance in our area has dropped. Our stake has the temple within our boundaries, and so when there is an empty session or one with low attendance we are urged to make time to attend the temple. The temple is a wonderful and sacred place. It is important to make time to go to the temple every month and more often if you can. My husband and I went once a week when we were first married. Rabbi and Cantor

My husband graduates in two weeks from graduate school. This is a great accomplishment and I am so proud of him. But we do not know what is going to happen next. He needs to find a good job, and I have been worrying about it. It seems to be hovering on the edge of my unconscious, popping up anytime I have a quiet moment. Well back to the … Continue reading

Where may we find surcease from Satan’s fiery darts, the constant whispering of his minions and indeed the complete influx of sin, degradation and evil coming at us in waves? Dotting the land, we find temples, the houses of the Lord. We are taught, from as early as we can begin to understand, that going to the temple, completing the ordinances and taking additional covenants is our firm goal. But until you’ve been to the temple you can’t really understand what treasures … Continue reading
