Welcome to 2008, hopefully your family had a better end to the year 2007 than the family of Natiline Sarkisyan. Their year ended with a funeral for their teen-aged daughter who died after her health and medical insurance company refused to pay for a liver transplant and then reconsidered. He was arguably the most famous opera singer in the world for more than 35 years… and now, as actress Whoopi Goldberg announced this morning on ABC’s “The View,” God’s choir of angels just gained an amazing tenor. For those of you who missed the news: Luciano Pavarotti, the great Italian tenor who helped popularize opera in the 20th century, has died. He was 71. The singer had been battling pancreatic cancer since last year and last night (early morning in Italy) he finally succumbed to the insidious disease at his home in Modena. Forbes Magazine’s 7-Least Safe Vehicles for 2007

Every year the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) reports the findings of their tests and announces their top Safest Pick Awards for vehicles. In order to be selected as a “Gold Top Safety Pick,” by the IIHS, a vehicle must earn a top rating when tested by the Institute for side, front and rear impact. This year, however only cars with Electronic Stability Control were tested and considered. Placido Domingo is adding his name to the growing list of celebrities lending a hand to those in need. The recipients of the tenor’s latest project are the hearing-impaired. Domingo is teaming up with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra for a global effort called “Hear the World.” The project is designed to raise awareness about hearing loss and to offer the latest technology to those in need – especially in developing countries.
