Super Mom? Not So Much!

As a single mom, I sometimes have to stop and remind myself that I am not Super Mom. I cannot do it all by myself. I do not have all the money in the world. I do not have enough energy to keep moving all day, nonstop. And I need to remind myself many times that this is all ok. This recent frustration comes from my daughter’s new softball schedule. This is her first year playing softball (although she has played basketball and soccer in the past). She has two games each week, some of which are almost an hour’s … Continue reading

Shhhh…..I am trying to work!

Don’t get me wrong…I love my husband. He is adorable. He’s funny, intelligent and genuinely fun to be around. Unless I am trying to work – then, all of those fantastic traits can be a bit annoying. On a positive note, I was feeling a bit of writers block tonight and his constant talking gave me a topic to write about. “Honey…you would have loved the lunch we had today…they had the best burgers”. “Did you notice that the movie I’ve been wanting to see is out on DVD..finally?” “Hey – listen to the dog, he’s snoring again…he must be … Continue reading

Do You Want to Work from Home? Don’t Air Your Dirty Laundry Online

The other day, I was reading some posts on a message board forum for moms who work from home. One of my favorite forums is the “telecommuting” thread. This is a great place to find current job openings and other ways to earn income online, or from home. I visit the site often and am starting to get to know the personalities of many of the posters. One of the “regulars” rarely takes a bathroom break without announcing it to the entire forum. Let’s just call her “Sally”. Just for arguments sake, I decided to pretend to be an employer … Continue reading

A Lesson from “Jane” – What NOT to do as a Direct Sales Person

I’ll never forget the day I told my family members that I was joining a direct selling business. “You are doing WHAT?” they asked…clearly stunned. Quite honestly, I think they would have taken the news better had I told them I’d quit my job as a social worker to become an exotic dancer. I used to wonder why many people had such negative opinions of the direct selling industry until I met “Jane”. This summer I set a booth up at a local craft fair for my business. Jane was in the booth next to me. She sprayed perfume on … Continue reading
