The Wii and Preschoolers

It may surprise you to know that I let my preschooler play video games. In fact, she is pretty good at them. Here is why we have made the Wii available to our four-year-old. When the Wii video game system came out, we thought the craziness surrounding it was completely ridiculous. Why would people practically kill each other trying to be one of the first ones to plunk down a lot of money for a Wii system and then even more money on the games themselves? Well, after much of the hoopla died down (and several friends of ours had … Continue reading

Do You Play Games with Your Spouse?

I seem to have developed an affinity for coming up with potentially misleading titles this week. A couple of days ago I wrote Change Your Bedding, Change Your Sex Life, which could have been construed to mean I was implying something more simple than what I really was. Now this title could be taken to mean I wonder if you play mind games with your spouse. That might make for an interesting topic one day, but today’s not that day. I’m actually talking about real games. Fun games. Board games, card games, video games, etc. Games Couples Play I’m more … Continue reading

How to Find Video Games for Pennies

Are your “kiddos” gathering their Christmas lists? My kids are already having this discussion. I overheard them taking at our dining room table with the neighbor kids while everyone was coloring. My daughter wants “ruby shoes,” and my son is hoping for a video game. The discussion got me thinking about video games. They are so expensive. Current games can cost around $50 at the store. And the systems start in the hundreds. But if video games are on your list, there are ways to get them for less. Here are some ideas to help you get that special game … Continue reading

E3 Gaming Rumors

Gamers everywhere are anticipating all of the new offers in the gaming world that will be announced at the E3 Media and Business Summit in Los Angeles. There is everything here from a price decrease in a major video game system to the highly anticipated possible release of a new Halo game. There are major changes in the conference from last year. It is now by invitation only, reducing the crowd expected from 60,000 to 5,000. Last year, more than 400 game companies … Continue reading

Nintendo Teaches You to Drive

Yesterday, I finally changed my driver’s license over from Connecticut to Pennsylvania. While I didn’t have to take a knowledge test, I did have to stand in line for nearly an hour. During that time, I glanced through the drivers manual. While I already new all of the information that was presented in the thick book, it struck me that the book was very thick. There is certainly a lot of information to know, from what a buggy crossing sign looks like (we are in a state with a large population of Amish) to how to safely enter and exit … Continue reading

Wii Fit Can Get You in Shape

I have to admit that I have become a Biggest Loser fan. I stayed away from previous seasons, since I am not generally one to watch reality shows, but got hooked on this one, in spite of the obvious product placements. It was inspiring. And now I am looking forward to seeing the new Wii Fit product in action. In fact, it might even require that we purchase a Wii. Wii Fit is anticipated here soon in the United States and is seen as the next big thing from Nintendo. It was released in Japan back in December, and it … Continue reading

Outfitting Your Wii with Controllers

There is no doubt that the Wii is currently (and still) the most popular and affordable gaming device out there. But before you score your Wii at $250, make sure that you have budgeted for the accessories and games. I’ll be offering a guide to the most useful and interesting Wii accessories. First, let us talk about controllers. The most obvious accessory is an extra remote. The Wii comes with only one controller, so unless you want to avoid playing the Wii with others, then an extra remote is a must. A big part of the fun of playing a … Continue reading

Boomshine Game Review

Want a cute little addicting game that is very relaxing to play? Try this free little gem that can be played online. I first came across Boomshine from the Bored.com website. (If you aren’t familiar with Bored.com, you can click here to learn all about it: Bored.com.) It looked interesting, so I decided to try it out. The object of the game is to blow up or “boom” pretty little colored dots. Don’t worry, there is no violence in this game, just a very pretty and soothing piano music track that blends so nicely with the visuals and strategy of … Continue reading
