Have you ever had a plan to be nice to your kids completely backfire? That’s been the story of my life this morning. My baby came down with a nasty cold a few days ago, and she’s been pretty miserable. I’ve been doing whatever I can to make her more comfortable: I give her lots of warm baths, run the humidifier, scratch her back, and do lots of baby massage. She normally sleeps in her crib. How Much Time Do You Spend Watching TV?

The numbers are in… drum roll please… According to Nielsen Media Research, the average American watches 142 hours of TV per month. Basically, the average couch potato spends roughly six full days in front of the boob tube each month. And that number rises the older you are. According to Nielsen, Americans aged 65 and up watch more than 196 hours per month. That’s more than eight entire days of non-stop TV. Ready, Set, Watch!

Yesterday was the first official day of the 2007-08 TV season. This week is an especially critical time for networks as they unveil their newest contenders in the battle to win over as many viewers as possible. In a departure from years past this season’s new shows are straying from the reality genre and offering more of an escape from real life. Supernatural and science fiction genres featuring characters who use their “extraordinary” gifts to conquer the bad guys are getting the most buzz this season. How Carefully Do You Watch TV?

In previous blogs I mentioned the method by which I “watch” television. Typically, I utilize my ears more than my eyes. Most moms will tell you that watching television (even the news) is a rare luxury. It is for me anyway.
